I should preface this by saying that it’s really everyone else (at the Planet, the fans that suggest, etc.) that brings the music that I’m introduced to at TBF, which is almost always more lasting than the music I think I’m going to the festival to hear…
That said, in 2011 I’d love to see (in no real order):
Furthur (Weir/Lesh)
Buddy Miller (with his own set!)
Justin Townes Earle
David Rawlings/Gillian Welch (in some form)
Tony Rice (in any capacity)
Crooked Still (who ALWAYS blows me away)
Railroad Earth (who SOMETIMES blows me away)
Avett Brothers
John Prine
Wilco
Emmylou
Anything involving Stuart Duncan
I’ll also note that, though it might seem like riding a high horse, I’m generally disappointed at the negativity toward bands that represent a risk that Planet Bluegrass has taken over the years. Bands like Swell Season, Ryan Adams & the Cardinals, and others represent the breadth of TBF to me and I’m ALWAYS more pleased than disappointed by the risks taken in the planning of this festival – it’s what keeps me coming back, even despite my own disappointment at times.
Oh major dittos on the Tony Furtado…tell him we miss him!
And I keep running into Cherryholmes…despite the fact I never hear anyone mention them, I’ve been digging them a lot recently
some ideas i’m really diggin so far from others…
Dehlia Low (we’re hoping to have them play our wedding in Asheville about a month before festival next year, awesome suggestion!)
Dan Tyminski Band
Ray Lamontagne
Paul Simon (that would be Sweeeeeeeet :thumbsup)
and some new ones…
JD Crowe and New South Reunion would be amazing (JD Crowe, Tony Rice, Jerry Douglas, and Ricky Skaggs)
Donna Hughes (of which Tony Rice and JD Crowe have just produced her last two albums)
Horse Feathers (from Oregon, http://www.myspace.com/horsefeathersmusic )
and Rusted Root (such a good live show!)
:band
Peter Rowan and either his Bluegrass or Free Mexican Airforce.
Swell Season was wonderful at Folks
Darrell Scott
Richard Thompson Band
Calexico
Duhks
Much agreement with the previous accolades for Darrell Scott. The man can do no wrong.
Its been several years since Mike Marshall was on the bill. He has a killer Brazilian chorro band that would rock. Plus its been 15 years since Uncommon Ritual was released (w/ Bela and Edgar). Booking Mikey would be catnip to B&E.
Harry Manx, a spectacular fingerstyle and hindustani guitar player from Canada. He has T ride potential dripping off his fretboard.
Stevie Coyle, ex Wayb now a solo act and delighting crowds wherever he goes. Funny as heck on stage too.
Darol Anger, overdue.
Martin Sexton - please please please :festivarian2

Railroad Earth.

Blue Highway
Steep Canyon Rangers with or w/o Steve Martin

Railroad Earth

Re-reading this thread, I just want to second a few more…
Crooked Still (love their new album!)
Stuart Duncan, how about Nashville Bluegrass Band?!? (dunno if they still play, but Alan O’Bryant’s vocals kill me everytime!)
Darrell Scott & Tim O’Brien (I’d LOVE a live performance of Real Time, albeit a few years late :flower)
Greensky Bluegrass always rock
How about a Jerry Douglas & Tony Rice set? Oh, wait a minute, how about a Tony Rice, Alison Krauss and Jerry Douglas set, covering solely James Taylor, Paul Simon, Gordon Lightfoot and Joni Mitchell songs?!? :love I’m allowed to dream, aren’t I?
Ronnie Bauman
IIIrd Tyme Out
Crooked Still they sure can rock it. Their new CD is just off the charts good. :flower
Dolly would rip it up but I’m sure she is big $$$, but she would really knock our socks off like Johnny Cash did I bet cha :flower
