WHERE'S THE HIGH SCHOOL CAMPING TICKETS!!

I was looking on the tickets page and saw Lawson and Mary camping but no high school camping ?? Are they not going to have camping there next year ?

Just found out why on the camping page . Thanks -Stevens

Due to major construction projects in Telluride High School and the adjacent field, this campground may not be available for the 2015 Telluride Bluegrass Festival. We will update this page as soon as we get final word from the school district.

Ouch…

A little more info on this…

Voters in Telluride approved a major school expansion project (via mill levy) in the November 4 election.

Since the project was just approved a few weeks ago, the school district is still finalizing construction details.

They’ve promised to update us as soon as they know more about availability of the high school fields for a Bluegrass campground. But it’s possible we may not have an answer for a few more weeks.

Thanks for the update . Does this mean the High School field will be no longer available for camping? Are they building these new buildings where the field is now ? I’ve only camped there once . But I love it. Its close to the Festival and theirs a market across the street . That would be a bummer if we can’t camp there anymore . -Stevens-

SO, if high school camping tix aren’t on sale by December 5th, can we buy tickets for Lawson Hill and then switch to the high school, if that campground becomes available at a later date?

Same thing I was wondering

Tickets and camping for Telluride Bluegrass are fully refundable thru March 13, 2015. (http://www.bluegrass.com/telluride/rules.html)

We fully expect to know the status of the High School campground well before March. So if you purchase tickets for another campground and High School becomes available, you’ll be able to return your other campground tickets to us for a full refund.

:cheers

If the high school is not open will there be an alternate place to shower?

I voted against this measure, which passed by only a very narrow margin … almost close enough to trigger an automatic recount.

Unfortunately, I believe this $24 million measure was loaded with bloat of special interests under the guise of “other community interests” … should’ve been more along the lines of $12-16 million to add basic classroom space.

Below is a rendition of an initial concept. As you can see the new building in the foreground is of decent size and would invariably require much of the remaining field for construction staging and even if there’s a bit of room left over, they simply might not want to contend with people camping immediately adjancent to a construction site.

Looks like the field won’t be available for years to come . I didn’t realize until seeing the lay out that this is such a big construction project . Thanks for the visual Face on Mars .-Stevens-

The taxes will be raised solely by property tax hikes for all property within the R1 School District … to the tune of about $100/yr. per $500k worth of valuation for residential properties and 4x this rate for commercial properties. Apparently, capital expenditures for School District improvements can only be funded in such a manner vs. using rec / med pot taxes. This cost will not only be absorved by home owners, but also passed along to renters and ultimately customers of businesses. There’s a myrad of reasons I’m not warm and fuzzy about this, but not looking to rehash the whole debate though … it is what it is at this point.

My suspicion is that camping for the festival will only be affected during construction; afterwards, the capacity will be reduced simply by the footprint of the new structure … which is large, but does not consume the entire field. If you look closely, it’s only really the one section in the foreground … the middle section which jets to the south from the Auditorium is already there.

Looks like it will just be a little more cozy camping .

Yeah, I guess some spots will be in the shade a little earlier in the evening too.

One other thing which has been floated is astroturf. I’m not sure if they’re looking to cover the entire field or just part of it, but this could also have an impact … although for all I know they could be referring to an indoor use. In any case, hopefully it wouldn’t put the kiabash on camping due to concerns about wear and tear. Personally, I think astroturf outside is insane … I understand there are big maintenance costs and a truncated summer making costly re: the upkeep of natural turf, but it’s not like it’s the middle of the desert.

Is it reasonable to think/hope that the folks at Lawson Hill will sort themselves into a Family campground area and a non-family area? I’m going to miss the showers, but I’m REALLY going to miss the family campground quiet hours…

It’s looking like we will be able to use the High School for family camping again in 2015 - albeit with a smaller capacity.

:thumbsup

We’ll post more details very soon…

“GREAT NEWS”!! THANK YOU THANK YOU !!

Such good news. I loved camping there last year with the much shorter bike ride to the music. But I’ll miss it in 2015 as I booked a room in town near the library so that my wife will come (and my daughter and her bf and my son). The last time my wife camped with me my father got frostbite and everyone hadd altitude sickness. She swore she would never tent with me again.

WOO HOO!!! Thank you for the encouraging words! They are seldom heard!
