Since there is very little chatter on the board right now, I thought it would be a good time to open the conversation for people that you’d like to see at a future festival.
There are many obvious names, but who are you digging right now that are less obvious?
Seen anyone since last year’s thread about performers that you think is fantastic?
Seen anyone recently who you had seen before that seems to be just getting better and better?
And how could I leave out:
Darol Anger - His Monster string quartet project… http://www.darolanger.com/
YIKES! I’m tracking out this recent Dance Palace show in my spare minutes and keep getting distracted by the music, thus losing my place in the universe.
We’re in the middle of pledge drive right now, so my music listening is limited
Why not stop by the chat some Monday evening and say hello. I’ll fill your ears with music and the festivarians will fill your ears with Bacon.
For a late night slot, I have only one recommendation based on the two 2009 performances I’ve seen from this band:
OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW :thumbsup :rock :hop :hop :hop
These guys are absolutely ripping it up. I saw them at DelFest and they played after the hail storm and revived the whole fest after the damaging storm.
I also saw them headline the Route 29 Revue with Levon Helm at Merriweather Post and they were stellar.
I also recommend Cornmeal for the Thursday or Friday 1-3pm set. High energy get off your butt dancin’ music!
Lee Boys should be considered for Sunday gospel set - as you know they play alot with the McCoury boys.
im with hippie on the nod towards darol anger
the republic of strings is awesome. ive only seen them once and was mesmerized for the whole show
ive seen darol with yonder a couple times and that is some of my favorite music ever right there…
Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys main stage and Gospel set in Elks park on Sunday Morning
DANNY BARNES did I mention Danny Barnes with the bad livers and then a sit in with Yonder
Earl Scruggs
Steve
Old Crow medicine show
Carolina Chocolate drops
Any and all traditional bluegrass
combine that with the usual suspects
Yonder
RRE
Greensky
Give cornmeal a slot on mainstage
Left over Salmon
Bluegrass, Bluegrass, and more Bluegrass, my own opinion is you could leave some of the rock and other genres out although David Byrne and Los Lobos were fantastic the past few years.
I would love to see Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, especially if they had a nightgrass show somewhere as well.
Gov’t Mule would be cool do, they may play heavy and hard a lot, but I think they know how to soften it up as well, and Warren Haynes doing an acoustic Elks Park workshop would be AWESOME!
Also, The Bridge is amazing, get them there!
Hi Dustin! :wave
I completely agree with a lot of the names already mentioned such as Cornmeal (YES PLEASE!!), Old Crow Medicine Show, Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band, and the Carolina Chocolate Drops…
I discovered a really fun band at High Sierra this year that I think would make an awesome addition to TBF… They’re called Poor Man’s Whiskey and they even came out on stage wearing whiskey barrels!! Totally a blast to watch, and pretty talented too!
Lemme stew this over a bit, I’m sure I’ll come up with more suggestions…
:flower
Cornmeal- They tore up Fly Me to the Moon this past year and, in my opinion, are very worthy of a mainstage slot.
Trampled By Turtles- Not real well-known yet across the nation but those who have seen them have certainly been hit by their passion, drive, songwriting, and love of the music. I think this boys would take TBF by storm.
Pert Near Sandstone- They are a midwestern band that has gotten better and better and better and are now playing just incredible high energy string band music. A duel-nightgrass show between them and Trampled By Turtles would be off the charts.
Leftover Salmon- I thought it was unfortunite that they were not around for TBF 09’. No Vince Herman rumblin’ around the festival grounds! It would be real special to see these boys back in action at TBF.
Railroad Earth- They were great at 09’ fest and I would love to see them back again!
Darol Anger- Republic of Strings is pretty incredible. Not to mention, Darol sitting in with numerous bands would be a treat.
Avett Brothers- They have gotten better and better and are scheduled to release another album which is apparently very good (I have not heard it but friends of mine have).
I would adore some Alison Kraus in any capacity, be it with Union Station or with Robert Plant.
Trampled By Turtles would put on one hell of a show.
Beppe Gambetta is a phenomenal guitarist that would go over really well.
I’d love to see some good piano on that stage again, Bruce Hornsby and/or Grace Potter would be great.
Darrell Scott is always amazing, whether with his band or playing solo.
A New Grass Revival Reunion would be killer.
Keller Williams is amazing, I’d love to see him come back.
Same Goes for Tony Furtado and LoS.
White Water Ramble came through MT recently, they had a 45 minute opening set for RRE and their show reminded me of LoS. I’d love to see them get a late night slot.
After twenty years of attending Telluride Blugrass Festival and longer at Festivals from production through cooking to fully cooked. I don’t know how it keeps getting better, the crowd, the line-up, me. . . my family, hard sayin’ not knowing. Sure did dig Crooked Stills w/ co. in Elks Park. A.K. and Union Station always good. Railroad Earth undeniably on time and deserving of a longer set. Did someone mention The Dead :peace invited to fill the Sat. night slot, and if The Dead why not Bruce Hornsby? How about Mark Knopfler before The Dead? The Lee Boys and Otis Taylor and his African Orchistra real good at B&B Telluride this past month, also dug Umphrey’s McGee so talented though a bit lacking at many vocal momants. Jackie Green personal highlight of the Blues and Brews Fest though a different day than Bonnie and Taj, also Anders Osborne always good. Back to Bluegrass or Newgrass: Bela, Bela, and more Bela w/ whoever he wants, how bout a Newgrass Revival revival, as well. Sure did love all the Jerry Douglas presence, could always have more Eadger Meyer. How about Billie Nershie and Drew Emmit, Stringcheese, Phish or Widespread Panic? Warren Haynes w/ whoever would be excellent. Heard of Frogwings get them and I’m at your service. Whoever that was in Town Park Campground singing Peace and Love and Baby Ducks needs a tweener slot! The Spiritual Sun. morning thang could be filled w/ Carlos Nakai . . . though I vote for Gospel like The Blind Boys of Alabama or better yet one of New Orleans’ Tabernacles, or even better ask the guy that runs the Gospel tent @ NO Jazz Fest who he’d recommend, the on the ground guy, his name slipping my addeled mind, or Aretha Franklin. Dustin, thanks for asking, whatever y’all come up with will be well appreciated by all at times and at times by all, there will always be some tarptesties, such is the life of growth and the growth of life. :thumbsup
I somehow forgot how much I’ve always wanted to have more Reggae at Bluegrass like Berres Hammond, Gregory Isaacs, or Stephen Marley? Sun. morning or any other time, Please. I supposse asking Bob Dylan to come would be way cool. :festivarian
