Town Park virgin? Get your answers here!

Do the late night shows really start at 11 or is there time to go from the last performer at the fest to the Palm? Thanks

They really do tend to start on time. You’ll either miss the start of your NG or the end of the main stage, depending on your level of enthusiasm for either.

Hi again! Camping in Warner Field this year and hoping I have my list ready and ripping! Question about grey water and compost. I am assuming PB will have compost stations, but how do folks handle their gray water situation? Is there a spot to ‘dump’? I cant imagine everyone just releases into the baseball field? And, what is the water situation like? Water trucks? Spigot? I am planning to bring plenty of water but have to be sure to hydrate plenty. As always, thanks for the invaluable intel! :cheers

Never camped in Warner, so I can’t help with the gray water question. There will be compost and recycling bins by every garbage bin.

There is a spigot right next to Warner Field that you can use to refill your water. Don’t worry about bringing water with you for the festival as their will be free water everywhere you turn. Just make sure to have enough for the trip there.

I have a couple questions. This will be my third time up there but first time in Town Park.

I won’t get there until Tuesday night or Wednesday morning and will be solo, so the amount of space I need is minimal.

What are the limits of the campground? I know it gets filled in but would finding a spot for a single tent be tough?

If I get there late Tuesday, can I park in town and set up my tent in the morning?

Where do we park our vehicles?

I’m sure others will come to mind, but that’s it for now.

Thanks y’all!

Space is tight by Tuesday, but you should be able to find a spot for one tent.

Due to a local ordinance, you won’t be able to park in town and sleep in your car. How late would it be on Tuesday?

After you unload your car, you will be directed to Mountain Village to park and then you will take the free gondola back to Telluride. If you get there after the gondola closers, you will park your car in Town Park and then move it in the morning.

Welcome MK, :wave

Let me see if I can answer your questions. I’m sure others may chime in also.

Last year I was much like you but a festi-virgin to boot. I arrived Monday morning to TP and after riding my bike thru multiple times, I concluded there was no room anywhere. But I had been reading this forum a lot and did what others suggested. Talk to people! Really, you need to start talking to people already set up and let them know you are by yourself and do they know of any spots to squeeze your tent in. Most of the established camps will be set up on Saturday, but everyone is super friendly and helpful. It will be tight by Wednesday morning, but you will find a spot! You may even get invited to join one of those camps!!

You will end up parking your car up in the Mountain Village by Tuesday evening or later. No worries, you won’t need it until Monday.

Not sure what the limits are for TP? If you are wondering how many passes for TP are sold, I’m not sure. Like I said, it will look like there is no where to pitch your tent, but there are actually plenty.

I’m also not sure about the sleeping in your car in town. I would think that’s a no no also. You could probably find a nice USFS campground outside of town to do that. That’s what I would do, and come in first thing on Wednesday. Someone else probably has some better experience to comment from on this.

Where are you coming in from? There might actually be a good spot to spend the night before getting to Telluride.
:cheers

Thanks for the info. I live in Denver and when I leave really depends on work. I’ll leave Monday night or Tuesday morning if I can, but I’m not hopeful about that right now.

If it’s too late, I’ll probably just stop in Montrose and hit the road again early in the morning.

I was mostly concerned about a camping spot, but it sounds like I’ll be able to make something work. All I need is room for a tent, cooler, and chair to play my banjo in.

HELLO ALL! :cheers
We will be arriving on late Friday the 10th or early the Saturday the 11th. Somewhere around 1 AM. Are there specific spots marked for vehicle passes? We have a pop-up that is under the 23 foot requirement. Thanks everyone for all the great help!

No, they do not reserve spots for vehicles. Find a spot that doesn’t block anyone or anything and park it.

Awesome! Thanks much!

Thank you!

Planet takes over Town Park on Saturday morning, so you may have to wait until the car line starts before you can actually get in and get set up. Not sure how that all unfolds though.

Tom, We’re first timers and not easily finding several pieces of info. Help would be greatly appreciated!!

  1. Because we’re staying at a campsite out of town, we’re curious where we can park to catch a shuttle.
  2. Our campground doesn’t have showers; I hear showers are available at the high school…is that true?
  3. I’m reading lots of posts about the line to get in. Is this line that bad and do you have to stand in it even when you have tickets? How long should we plan to wait in line to get in first thing in the morning?
  4. Food inside the festival - do we need cash?
    Thank you!
    Beth
  1. Are you staying in one of the Planet Bluegrass campgrounds (Lawson or Mary E)? If so, than the shuttles will stop right in camp to pick you up. If you’re staying at a FS campground that has no affiliation with the festival, you’re best bet will be to drive to Mountain Village and take the free gondola to town. Most of the parking by the campground will be taken.

  2. Yes, you can shower at the High School. I can’t remember how much it costs, but the proceeds go to benefit the high school athletics program. I can’t remember which team, though.

  3. You only need to wait in line if you’re going to do the tarp run. There are several threads on this subject that have plenty of information, but I’ll give you a quick rundown. Whether or not you need to participate in the tarp run depends on several factors. How big is your group? If you are a small group (4 people or less), you can usually find space on a tarp that is unoccupied or only has a few people on it. Just ask if there’s room for you before you sit down and be prepared to move along when the owners get back if they don’t have enough room for you, though most of the time you’ll be fine to stay. If you have a bigger group, however, and wish to be close to the stage, someone will have to wait in line all night to get a number, then they will line up in numerical order and enter with their tarps to try and claim the best space possible. Once the tarp run is over, they open to gates to everyone. Sometimes, people who don’t care about being close to the stage will bring a tarp in at this time.

  4. Some of the stands can take plastic, but cash is better and preferred by almost all vendors.

Newbie here…thanks to everyone for providing such friendly and helpful information! I have 2 questions after reading through the last year of this thread.

  • There will be 4 of us with 2 tents and at least 1 EZup shelter and we’re trying to decide if we should leave Sat or Sun morning (11th or 12th). Will getting to TP Saturday evening really make a big difference in getting a good spot, or will arriving Sunday evening still give us options?

  • We’d love to bring our bags (cornhole) set. Will there likely be room to play somewhere near our camp? Is that kosher, or frowned upon?

Thanks! Can’t wait!
Andrea

Greetings! I think we would all HIGHLY suggest coming on Saturday. Larger spots for multiple tents plus an EZ Up can fill up quickly. However, it’s not horrible if your tent ends up being a ways from the shelter, just kind of inconvenient.

If you can find space for cornhole, then great! Most folks set up games along the walkways where there is open space and also a great way to meet folks.

Also, remember that Town Park is kind of divided into 3 parts: RV camping (actual campground with numbered lots), the “preserve” area (which is probably where you’d want to be if you aren’t packing super-light), or the “primitive area” which is more over-grown but with some good areas, but a longer haul with your gear.

As always, us veterans highly recommend scouting out the areas and chatting up folks before picking a spot. Just carry a tarp or two with you to throw down when you find “home”.

You will not be disappointed. Unless you hate fun.

Thank you!! Saturday it is. No fun haters here :cheers

Greetings all. Two first-timers here, who scored passes for Town Park somehow. This seems like a basic question but I’ve looked for the answer and failed to find it. What do campers do with their guitars/banjos/mandos etc. when they go into the festival grounds (or go to town or whatever)? thanks . . .

Just about everyone leaves their instruments in their tent/camper while in the festival.
As long as the tent/camper is closed up and items are not visible they should be fine.
If you’re seriously concerned about a precious high priced instrument you can always check it at the instrument check next to the children’s area between the box office and the festival entrance.

People at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival are an honest bunch. :flower
