Town Park virgin? Get your answers here!

Hi! Getting super excited to try my luck at the lotto for camping! If I am so lucky to actually score 2 passes, I am wondering what day would be the optimal day to arrive. I have read through many of the posts and 99% say the earlier the better, which I totally agree. Wondering if Tuesday night will be too late, or if I should just bite the bullet and get in line Saturday =) Yahoo! cant wait to see everyone

Yes! Thank you. That’ll be my plan! Can you help me understand the lay out of Town Park? Is it an actual campground? Meaning folks can camp there whenever they want (when festivals are not taking place)? And if it is a campground with actual numbered campsite, how does it work with the sites and lotto? From a map I found, it looks like there are 40 ‘sites’. Do they lotto X number of camping passes for Town Park and everyone communally sets up their spot? My only experience with camping with Planet Bluegrass is at Lyons. Which, I am sure you are familiar, there they have one large open space so if your tent fits then pitch it.
Also, reading the load in instructions for Warner site, it looks like you start the process Wednesday AM, with a line beginning about how long beforehand? Since it is a pedestrian line with limited line leaving, do folks spending the night outside while waiting to load in?
THANK YOU! I know chances for actually scoring lotto tix are slim, but there is a chance. Either way, I’ll camp where ever!

Town Park is an actual campground that is in operation during the year. Planet Bluegrass takes over the campground the Saturday before the festival. At that time, the designated sites go out the window and you pitch your tent wherever you can find room. That Saturday is also when the Bear Creek Preserve opens for camping, as that is usually just a nature/recreation area where tents are not allowed.

I’m not familiar with Warner Field as I have never camped there and only rarely visit.

I have been attending TBF for the last 8 years. The first 2, I camped in Illium, which was a great spot. After that, I made the move to Town Park. I’ve never once won the lottery, but I’ve always been able to find tickets for face value. Just be diligent and patient and never offer more than face value and you’ll most likely find the camping you want.

Thank you!!! :cheers

I have a question re TP parking passes

Is it possible to drive in, all the way through town, with a car only, on Wednesday morning, and still get a parking spot?

I’m not worried about camping, just parking the car.

Thanks!

You’ll be able to drive into town and unload your stuff in Town Park on Wednesday morning. Most likely, all spots will be filled in Carhenge in town, and you’ll be directed to park in Mountain Village (and gondola into town).

Edit: are you asking if you have a TP Vehicle Pass if you’re able to find a spot in TP? There’s no such thing, to my knowledge, as a TP Parking pass.

If you actually have a Town Park Vehicle Pass then you best be camping in your vehicle. They are pure gold. :medal
Of course you would also need the Town Park Camping Pass to go along with it.
Spots for a Town Park Vehicle Pass will be difficult to find on Wednesday afternoon so I would suggest you get there a few days earlier.

If you just need a place to park your car and don’t have a vehicle pass, you will be directed where to go, but it won’t be very close to Town Park by that time.
:wave

i appreciate the help good people! just to be clear i should reword my question.

i have town park camp & 4 day festival ticket and a town park vehicle pass.

thanks to some good/kind people who show up early, my tent will already be set up on the wednesday so what i am hoping to do is drive right into town wednesday noon and park my car right in town park(with my town park vehicle pass). this year i don’t want to go early to town park and hence my decision to buy the town park vehicle pass(for ease of the in and out of telluride). mountain village is a slight hassle that i don’t want to have to deal with, if i don’t have to and i know car henge will be sold out by wednesday noon.

so i’m just wondering if i show up at noon on wednesday to town park with the town park parking pass can i find a spot there(for sure)

thanks :cheers

Please, please, please, please. Sell that vehicle pass on this forum. Since you are camping in a tent you will not need your vehicle during the time you are at fest. There are many long time Festivarians, that for health reasons need that vehicle pass to be a able to attend. Since you are a Town Park Virgin you are unaware of this and that is fine. The vehicle passes are really only for those that camp in their vehicle. So if you want to start your Town Park experience the right way and make a lot of friends, offer the vehicle pass for sale on this forum for face value! You will make an instant friend for life, and you will impress everyone on this forum, and every one in town park. If you keep it, and don’t truly need it. Well that is your choice! :pirate

NNNNNNoooooooooo!!!

You do not need to just park your car in Town Park and not camp in it.
That is the biggest no-no in the history of Town Park camping, period!
There are plenty of people that need Town Park Vehicle pass due to medical reasons.
If you don’t sell it here on the forum and end up parking your car next to your tent you will be the most hated person there.
I wouldn’t be surprised if you ended up with all four tires flattened as well.
(It’s been threatened before, but that’s not very festivarian like either. )
You will not have the good time you expected if you don’t sell your pass.
You can park your car for FREE.

Out of 1200 camping passes sold, there are only 30 vehicle passes, so you can see just how special these are.
For someone to use it simply to have their car close by is utterly selfish and is not a true festivarian. :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Now Tom, you may be making too strong a statement there. We would never flatten his tires. Now some one might douse the car with “Crunchy Frog!”… But then that would be alcohol abuse. Seriously though Tornedos, Tom is correct about the seriousness of this most grevious “Festi-Foul”. No harm will come to you or your vehicle, but you may just incur some really bad KARMA! Festivarians are a peaceful bunch. This has happened in the past when people didn’t know better. You were smart and got on this forum to ask questions, so now you know! I am sure that you will do the right thing. In fact look up Debbie from Tucson on this board. She will find a good home for your VP, someone who NEEDS it, and Planet Bluegrass will make sure that you get your money in full when you sell it to someone in need! Here is to an awesome time. For you in Town Park. There is no other experience like. I would suggest that you arrive the Saturday before fest when the Planet takes over TP. You will love all of the activities we have planned for pre-fest. :pirate

Hold on! Could this be an encore from Pig Warden’s great “Can I bring Scuppers the dog” prank thread from last year?

Hold on!! You have a Town Park pass AND a 4-day Festival Pass??? You don’t need both. Your Town Park pass IS a 4-day Pass!

As for your Vehicle Pass, if you don’t really need it, sell it to someone who really does. You don’t need a car in Telluride. You can walk everywhere. And if you should decide to take a car trip in the middle of the fest (I usually do to go fly fishing), then you either walk to your car if it’s parked in town (after you’ve dropped off all of your camping supplies in Town Park) or take the free Ganja-la to Mountain Village and grab your car there. Vehicle passes are too valuable to people who have medical needs to just use it to have your car parked next to your tent.

I’ve only been to this festival 16 years, so I don’t carry much weight around here, but any seasoned Festi-veteran will agree with me. Telluride is a walking town! Once you dump your camping stuff, park the car where the volunteers guide you. You really won’t miss it!

good tips ya’ll.

sounds like i just got some f-i-n-e face value trade bait for those greensky bluegrass nightgrass tickets that i so desperately need…

man, that new cd is sooo good. leap year. indeed.

First timer here. So I just scored two 4 days passes for me and the wife to TBF. They are festival-only tix.
I understand Town Park is the preferred camp to be in and I understand those 4 day passes with TPC camping are long ago sold out. I’ve read that it’s a longshot but sometimes these TPC tix show up on the ‘returned ticket resale’ site or on the PB forum.
The short question is this. There would never be a TPC ‘camping only’ pass available to folks that already have 4 day fest passes, right? On the PB site or otherwise.
If I’m understanding correctly, any available TPC tic would be a 4 day fest pass with TPC camping.
And If I were lucky enough to score a couple, then my option would be to try to sell my ‘fest only’ 4 day passes to others.
I currently have two camping passes for Mary Ilium and worst case, I’m sure we will still have an epic time! Can’t wait.

You are correct. Town Park camping and Warner Field camping passes include the four day festival pass.
They are the only camping passes that do include the festival pass.
There are a lot of people that love camping at Mary Ilium and I’m sure you’ll have the time of your life.
Since it is a ways out of town and requires the bus ride to the festival I would suggest you bring everything you need for the entire day/night rather than go back to camp to get warm clothes for night time use.
You would miss a lot of music if you were to go back to camp for anything.
Welcome to the family. :flower

If you pay attention to this board you should be able to buy TP passes and sell your 4 day passes but that will happen much closer to the actual festival date. Just keep your eyes open.

Awesome. Thanks so much for the info!

The Warner Field Pass is also All Inclusive.
