Are there regular-festivarian campsites where festival musicians typically like to come jam ? Does this happen only at night, or do some come by daytime too? :huh
I ask for two reasons - 1. I probably don’t want to camp too awfully close to the all-night jam session sites, and 2. b/c there’s someone I’d like to speak with…
Campground Jams have been known to break out at any time… :thumbsup
They can happen most any time of the day before the festival starts, after the fest begins most jams only happen in the late evening. The primary jams will happen in the more established camps like Mash, Tiki, Arizona Bowl, Steamboat, Fishbone, etc… All of the individual camps have a different focus for the jams and it is best to check in upon your arrival.
As to a :quote Quiet place to camp in Town park :quote , might I suggest Warner Field or Illium - - - In all seriousness there are many quiet corners in Town Park, you’ll just have to ask your neighbors. Find an experienced Festivarian who is familiar with the traditional camps to help guide you to the “quiet zone”. I have one in mind and so does Karlos, but we mighet have to kill before divulging THAT secret. :lol :lol :lol
As Jerry (Hippie) stated, the jams occur any time of day or night (especially before the festival) and as I stated earlier it’s difficult to pinpoint a “quiet” part of Town Park on the forum. You’ll need to get there early and check with a veteran as to where the best place to camp if you want peace and quiet in Town Park.
I’m always there early, and everyone knows where I camp… just ask for me. :flower
Good 411 guys. :thumbsup
Although it’s not true quiet I’m craving, ‘cause it’s nice to drift off to some good pickin, and I suspect by the time I fall (:cheers) into my tent , sleeping not gonna be a problem. :lol So no death secrets required. Just a bit off the beaten path is more what I’m lookin’ for. And where to look for…well, where to find regular jams.
Just as a general description…
It’s generally fairly quiet yet close to the picking on the South side of the preserve area in the trees if you can find a spot and get there early.
If you can’t get there early then check with me or some of the other veterans. :cheers
Tom , Howsit? Iam a 30 year veteran of Birkshire/Winterhawk/Greyfox on the east coast and am heading your way for the first time! Please HELP!!! Where is the best place I can hope for at this last minute? What about a car pass? Is it realistic at this point to hope for town park tickets? So many questions, so many unknowns. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks Miss Waterloo
First off…
car pass. You don’t want or need one unless you’re sleeping in your car!
There’s about 1 in every 150 Town Park campers!
With the lottery the way it’s been, there’s plenty of veteran camps that haven’t gotten passes so don’t count on Town Park camping.
Sorry to be such a bummer, but you should know how it is. :flower
For a first timer, I’d suggest you go for some of the outlying camping areas.
You’re going to have the time of or your life either way. :cheers
Goodmorning Tom,Thanks for the time saving tips. any other tidbits of information you think might be of helpful, send them my way! Thanks again, I will look for you when I get out there… Miss Waterloo
hi tom, another thing, can’t decide on a campground, depends on what time the fest ends for the day, or whats going on for nightgrass. Do I stay close to the fest grounds at the highschool for quiet camping and the short hike? or down the road a spell for maybe a more lively time? again i’t all depends on the fest times, maybe I will be done anyway. Thanks again for any wise advise. Miss Waterloo
Hi Ms Waterloo. I am not Tom but Tim. My wife and I camped at Mary Illium a few years back and while the shuttle could be a little hectic it was a very wonderful place. It is seven miles out of town and in a very beautiful location. We met some wonderful friends within a minute of arriving. As of now there are still car passes left as well so you could have your car right next to your camp the whole weekend. There are some very beautiful hikes right their and a river runs right alongside the campsite. It wil get crowded by Wednesday night though so it would be in your best interest to try to arrive by Sat or Sun to get a great little camping spot and to enjoy all the this wonderful area has to offer.
Pretty much every year the festival ends a little earlier on Thursday and Sunday (about 10:30 or 11:00) and a little later on Friday and Saturday nights (about 11:30 or 12:00).
Nightgrass shows usually end around 1:00 or 2:00 and if you camp in the outlying areas you can’t hang around too long or you may miss the shuttle.
Yes, Emmylou is my girl! :flower I have every single album she’s ever put out. :cheers
got a question…my fats and myself have 2 town park tickets (got very lucky for a couple a TP virgins), the question is can I invite my niece and her lover to join us to stay in the same area or is it limited per person?? :huh
Your Town park passes are each good for one person only, yur neice and her lover will need their own town park tickets after the night before festival starts.
Oh how the imaginations go wild mister tom and hippie… :rolleyes…anyway, once they get their tickets for TP, can they stay overnight?or how long can they stay in TP before they’re booted out? midnight?2am? How possible is it to get tickets to another camping place? Where is the closest camping area? sorry for all the questions, but i may have more, if you answer these well :lol :flower Thanks, BabyBear
