The Weather Gods - are they smiling?

I just looked at the long term weather forecast. I’m feeling lucky this year even though I know it’s been a long, cold winter. Every year I’ve come to the festival from Australia I have hauled polartec fleeces, woollen socks, beanies, gum boots, rain jacket plus floaty summer dresses, T shirts, shorts, thongs and walking shoes.

The Telluride weather forecast predicts constant rain and cool temperatures for the next month EXCEPT for six days 19- 25 June where it’s a lovely, sunshine filled 75.

That’s it, I’m not anxiously reading the weather charts the way I do every year. I’m packing summer gear plus one set of warm clothes. And no, I’m not hauling the still PRISTINE gum boots over the ocean yet again.

I’m an optimist ( or possibly crazy)- let the sun shine across our valley and the music begin.

I CANNOT WAIT to see you all again

You have to bring the boots. If you don’t it will surely rain, but if you do you know it won’t!
:evil

Seriously, what ToddG said!

Nah, I’m not doing it. I’ve lugged those boots on four planes every trip. They are heavy and bulky.

I’m praying for sunshine and counting on the weather gods to deliver ( so - no gumboots unless the weather predictions change a lot before I fly out)

Optimist always

Dont bring those big things! If it gets bad, buy a cheap pair to get you through and leave them in the free box for the next person. AND, you aren’t camping this year! Hard to dance in gum boots!!
:dancing

I for one could do with a few weeks without rain. I’m hoping for a dry experience. I think we’ve had about 9 dry days so far this May. If it keeps it up we won’t drive to Colorado we’ll just get an airboat and take the Arkansas River all the way!
:cheers

It has been very wet. SLC is posting their 2nd wettest May on record!

Oh good lord I’m getting worried.

Telluride is sunshine and blue skies in my mind.

I guess we could have fun dancing in the rain, gum boots may need to go in

Hold! It is the 2nd wettest spring. (March-May). But that pattern change is coming, June is starting with drier weather and SLC will be in the 80s next week. Let’s see how that sets up in SW Colorado and dries out Town Park.

AF, it has been good weather these years attending together, at least by the time you get here. But we have had wet weather during the pre fest the last couple. Those afternoon showers stop by Wednesday. I still dont think you need those big boots, but at least pack them last.

See you soon!
:sunshine:rollin :horsey

It’s been very cool and wet in Tucson as well… We have not hit 100 yet… Monday was only 76 degrees…It is going to start warming up but they say this is the 3rd latest time we ever hit 100… Coolest spring since 1979…

Kansas City just recorded the most rainfall for May, in over a hundred years of weather recording!
Over 15 inches, yikes!! On top of the F4 tornado that rolled through this week, we have been running 10 degrees below normal temps.

Looking at the extended Telluride forecast (for now, as it will most likely change), Some rain the Saturday before Festival, and lows around 32 almost every night! :frowning:
I am rethinking our bedding setup, as my GF has never done tent camping. I vowed not to repeat my Ilium mistakes from 2016 TBGF, as I crawled into my bag shivering on more than one occasion during festival. Dry socks every night, just before sleep!!

There is a reason that we bring long underwear! :evil

Always be prepared for cold nights. Many good tips on this forum, but a good basic is putting a layer between you and your pad/air mattress, as Todd talked about in one of these threads.

But it is looking to get better. Here is the daily discussion that the NWS meteorologist posted out of GJ for southwest CO. I know it looks boring to read but go down to the long term, which is warming and drying out. PM showers will hang around, but will be localized, not the same open storm door pattern we have been seeing.

I’m not saying it won’t rain, just that it looks like we are moving in the right direction for better weather! :thumbsup

I guess I better start packing :eek
Can’t wait to see many of you in just over 2 weeks for land rush and the boil!! :burn

Colorado ski resorts are closing later and later.
This year one of the resorts, Aspen I think, will be open until June 16. :eek

Heard on thews here in Abq. that there’s one ski area in CO that’s staying open until July!
And Purgatory was open last weekend; the same time as the Iron Horse Bike ride; crazy!

We’ve been unseasonably cool & breezy here in Abq.

Still looking for WF tickets…

A-Basin is open and looks to stay open until 6/23, Snowbird by me is going weekends until at least early July, same with Squaw in Cali, and Mammoth claims they’re staying open until August! Shoot, Snowbird had a 18" last Friday. It was like March up high … face shots all over!

And we were surfing only a couple of weeks ago.

Climate change is real!

I have my suitcase packed just holding off on the gum boots and puffer jacket…
Passport, time for some more dancing. Time to meet back in the canyon…forget about skiing for a while, it’s music time

Cannot wait to see everyone again. Yippee

I wont be going skiing before TBF. Might go when I get back. But with the skies sunny and temps heading up, I’m losing interest.

Billy and Bela are in town tonight, and the Dusters, Della, Wood Belly plus more are up at a small fest not too far away. Plus the Jamboree last month, I’m getting in some good music!

2 weeks from today I’ll be rolling in. One of these years Ill make it early for ABGAT.
:dance

Wow great music choices in the hood for you!

How was Billy and Bela? I’m sure there were people there who hadn’t heard of Billy and I’m sure their minds were totally blown.
