Yes, that way will be trouble. I think, if you take Hwy 160 from Durango to Hwy 184 at Mancos, then Hwy 145 thru Dolores, You will have better luck!

Thanks for the info about road closures. Very helpful! I have another question, are there any size limits on tents? I have a back-packing tent and a larger one with a vestibule which will allow me to store my luggage. I would not think going back and forth to my car in remote parking would be very feasible or a good use of my time.
From what I understand…there is no size limit on tents. Bring the one with the vestibule. Of course…depending on what day you get there…you may have to squeeze in somewhere.

Okay people…I need a serious pep talk. I feel like I have way overpacked for Town Park. My SUV is loaded for just ONE person. How hard is the unload and reload out of your vehicle on Saturday land rush??? I may have to rethink this.
Just add a few more items and your over-pack will be complete.
If you’re in a hurry and don’t want to sit down for a meal in cuba, I hgihly recommend the Chacoan Grill in a gas station across from Brunos. It’s a real dive, but the burritos are outstanding!
