THE LINE for numbers each day

Hold on a minute Bevin. I think the penny has finally dropped. You mean, I am abandoning my condo this year to camp with you guys and you are only just telling me this now? It gets noisy? Isn’t there a lights out, speak only in whispers policy from 11pm? How will I get any sleep?
:innocent::innocent:

You won’t! :pirate

Yeah Ms Down Under … I think you admitted that earlier! You will only sleep on Sunday night in order to board the correct plane home on Monday :eek

And even then you will need a good set of earplugs!

There will be plenty of time to sleep when you are really “Down Under”!

Bump

so am I clear…if I have a 4 day pass and show up around 7am I can get a random ticket for the line, and retun about a half hour before gates opening and get my place in line base don my number? Of course, following all the other rules you note. Is this right?

No. Only the Town Park/Warner Field line is being randomized. No line is needed anyone. The main town line will … still be a line as in the past.

If you are camping in Town Park or Warner Field, yes that is correct. If you are camping elsewhere or staying in town, you cannot get in the line in TP for a random numbers, only the line coming from the town side which will be sequential based on your place in line. The line will start to form the day before You do however have the option of either or both with the TP/WF wristband. KIDS wristbands will be NOt be given numbers in the town park line. Once you get there and see it, you will have a better understanding. Welcome to Telluride and the festival.

So I’m not a TBF newb, but this will be the first year we’ve attended without camping. We are staying in Mountain Village. It has been several years, so forgot that there is a Town Park / Warner line and a town line for entrance each morning. We were expecting the same random number handout system as RockyGrass, but alas, that is clearly not the case. I’ve read through this thread, so have learned quite a bit but still have a few questions.

My primary question is whether or not we can expect to find a spot for our tarp (and how far back we should expect to be) if we line up in the town line early each day. I know that some people line up the night before, so am wondering how extreme we need to get to ensure a semi-decent tarp spot.

  1. If someone catches the gondola down right when it opens (7 I believe) and then gets in the town line with the tarp, would we able to get a tarp spot or no chance? How far back would we be? Still in the low-back seat section?

  2. Would there be a big advantage to riding a bike into town 30 minutes before the gondola opens to get a spot in line or will it not make much of a difference?

  3. Any clue how many people are usually in the town line by the 715ish (first gondola arrival)? Would that person still be way behind whoever gets #750 from the camping line considering they’re going in simultaneously?

Thanks for the help! There are eight of us and had been thinking we’d be grab a number the night before and I’d be heading down early each morning for the run (like RockyGrass).

Never stayed in Mt Village but based on the town lines I’ve seen on my way to Baked, the earlier the better. Getting on he first ganja-la sounds good but I’ll bet anLOT of people are thinking the same thing.

Even in the TP Line you could get a decent number by getting there at 5:30. But there are about 4 times the number of people who come in thru the town lone so that early bike ride might be advantageous.

Boulderr,
Been in your situation before, dont be discouraged. We have come down from MV on the early ganjala, and depending on the day, have usually gotten a number in the 300s or 400s. Saturday AM is always the worst day. But if you are not in the first 100, no matter which line you are in, you will not get a spot in front of the path that cuts across the field in back of the sound board. Some folks bring tarps the size of an NBA basketball court.
But you will still get a decent spot further back where you can put down your chairs. and you are free to move up and occupy some of the other tarps if you ask. Folks are pretty friendly, especially if you bring refreshments. Unless you are sitting in the pit, it is actually better to sit a little farther back if you want to actually sit in a chair and watch, because pretty much everyone up front is standing or dancing by the middle of the afternoon. And if you want to be comfortable further back, dont get too close to the paths, since there is a lot of traffic which kicks up a lot of dust.
yes, it might be nice to get a tarp down close to the stage, but you wont be sitting down on it for long. The best advantage of the tarp is that it gives you somewhere to unload all the crap you bring in, so you can pick it up later. Or, as i have seen nany times, somewhere to pass out.
This is not a sit down festival. :cheers

Newbie question. Where specifically does the line form for those of us staying in town – not camping? Thank you.

It forms right by the front gate, next to the river. It starts forming in the afternoon, then snakes up Colorado, turns to go by the Post Office, then up Pacific. Unless you plan on staying all night, you’ll find it on the street.

Ok - complete TBF noob here, and after reading through all of this I’m thoroughly confused. Let me preface by saying I’ve been to countless music festivals, 100s of GD, Phish & bluegrass shows so I’m not a COMPLETE music/festival noob HAHA…just want to make sure i understand correctly:

  1. I am staying at Lawson, therefore I can only join the General admission line, correct?

  2. The line to get into the concert field begins forming the night BEFORE each day? As in people leave the show and literally just get in line again and stand there overnight? Huh?

  3. All of the earliest folks in line get a number, and then they stop handing out #'s? So basically it’s just a line, and those that got there earliest have a number to reserve their spot. Makes sense if I’ve got that right…

  4. Tarps…I’m thinking I am not getting there early enough to throw a tarp down, BUT if I do- any tips here? Does everyone stake them down? do you just leave your stuff there to remember which one was yours?

sorry for all the dumb questions, i’m sure this will all make sense to me after day 1! Thanks!

  1. Correct! You’ll be in line on the “town side”.

  2. While the line does form the day/night before each day, the large majority of folks will get in line in the AM. I’ve always leisurely gotten in line in the morning, got my number, and then briskly walked out to the field to snag a good spot for the tarp. Unless you are truly hardcore about being front and center, there is no real need to be one of the first in the tarp line.

  3. Yes, correct again!

  4. You’ll definitely want to stake the tarp down, and then you can feel free to leave whatever you need to there. You will almost always find somewhere (maybe not the best view) to place your tarp, regardless of what time you arrive for the day.

Welcome to one of the greatest festivals on Earth!! From one festie veteran to another, TBF is by far my favorite and the one I return to year after year.

Already kind of asked this, but asking again for a bit more clarification! How long before gates open does one need to get in line to make sure they can get a tarp spot (even if it is toward the back)? Just trying to gauge what time I should be heading down from Mountain Village each morning. Looks like gates are 10:00 on Thursday/Sunday and 9:00 on Friday/Saturday.

Does the gondola open at 6:30 each morning? I thought I had heard 7:00, but this makes it look like 6:30:

Can you transport a bike on the gondola? Are there any fun trails to ride from Mountain Village down into town (instead of taking the Gondola down in the morning)?

Thank you!

Will the regular town line numbers also be handed out between 7am and gate opening? Seem like it always used to be between 4 and 6 but I think this is saying later? Or is that only town park?

Unbelievable. The roll out was an absolute disaster. The poor line guy passing out numbers seemed totally clueless as to the process and the way to actually randomize 750 numbers. Fix this or change it back, and I WAS a fan of this change. I trust the Planet will have this fixed, or at least improved, tomorrow.
Please consider giving the line guy a little more support until this smooths out.

We thought all 750 numbers for town park would be randomized. You randomized only the first 300. What a disaster. Most of us left when we found that out. We hope this is corrected by tomorrow. If you are only going to randomize the first 300, then folks might as well get back in line to get a spot in the first 300.
Here is an idea PB. How about writing a small app, so when folks get a TP or Warner band, their band number is associated with a cell phone number. Then every day you send out random numbers from 1 to 750 on the app. No waiting in line again.
A frustrated camper.
