Hey Bluegrass Geoff – thanks for the flagpole info. I’m sure we’ll figure it out closer to the fest along with the tarp scenario. Something tells me that closer to the date would be a better time to plot everything out. I will, however, still want to create a flag or some sort of “here we are” alert
I just also bought tickets for Rockygrass so I’m soberfesting the whole summer and very excited to be in mountainous CO vs. the urban jungle (which i do love in my special way as well
If you search for “flagpoles” in the TBF section of the forum, you’ll find some threads that give some good info on flagpole etiquette and how to play by the rules and stake out a tall pole! If you aren’t trying for a big space front and center, shouldn’t be that difficult to get a spot large enough to gather in the back areas amongst the shade tents! The Tarp Run sounds much more worse than it really is, pretty fun to watch though!
LOL! I will do a flagpole search and become educated on the art of such! Meanwhile, i actually watched some youtube videos of the Tarp Run (set to bullfighting music) and admittedly, it scared the X out of me :). We will be cool in the back…i’m thinking if we have a big turnout way up front, that could be a bit intense. Also, i can do my solo mini chair a-wandering this and get up close and only take up a tiny space…(shhhh…my secret…i use a childs chair and i’m very compact!)
Apparently you can’t go deep in the ground in town park so I found this…
We can weigh it down with something heavy and set up a spot large enough to gather in the back area amongst the shade tents, (per your suggestion - a great one). I could make a flag and find a pole in Telluride (hard to bring from NYC!)
what do you think ToddG…are we makin this happen ???
I will also ask bluegrassGeoff if he can store the pole stand in the office for us!
Wanted to see if you might be able to store this and a flagpole/flag for us at the fest…
i think it might be easier than taking it to and fro. Its better than having to dig into the ground and I saw another festivarian used it years ago when i searched Flagpole on the Festivarian forum! Also, stupid as it may seem, i cannot figure out how to address the whole soberfestivarians group on this…am i missing something? Seems like you have to write one person at a time?
Absolutely, we can either throw it behind the counter, under the trailer, or keep it locked inside. The Box Office is fairly close to the entrance and either me or one of my staff can help you carry it over in the AM if needed.
Friend of Bill W here, and coming to the fest again this year. First time sober though, looking forward to hanging out with some like-minded people. Anyone else have any updates on what the plans are? Are we going to try to stake out a spot, should we be looking for yellow balloons/banner? I know we’re still a month and a half out from TBF, so I’m sure its still a work-in-progress.
I am the initiator of the sober festivarians group and will be spearheading along with others our hang at the festival! We will be sporting a yellow flag on a pole and the location TBD will be toward the back for convenience and reconnaissance’s sake but don’t worry, we are not sacrificing the music “view” cause thats why we’re all here! So yes, staking out a spot and yes, yellow flagpole and if you so desire balloons, ye shall have!
More info to come close to the fest but totally join and stay tuned here for further info!!!
Sounds like a plan! I’ll keep checking this thread as the fest draws closer. I plan on getting to Telluride on Tues the 17th and I’ll be camping out at Lawson Hill. I’m coming in from the east coast, but let me know if I can be of any help or service to this endeavor!
I’m coming from the east coast as well (NYC) and arriving Wed. afternoon. Staying in town. Thinking of arranging a meetup prior some time Wednesday to say hey and put some pieces together! Stay tuned for more info closer to June – and if you have any sober friends…spread the word
Hey Guys…I’m happy to spring for this but not sure how its gonna stay “up”…needs something heavy at bottom to hold down…maybe a cooler? Any ideas? I can make very light yellow flag so thats no issue…we can only go 6" deep into the ground so thought this would be a good option!
Also, BluegrassGeoff…is there a place you could possibly store this for us as the fest…you mentioned it was a possibility.
Lastly, rather than drag it from NYC, its love to be able to send it closer to the final destination or to someone who can transport it in a car etc.
Watcha think sober festavarians… Here it is…nice and tall!
