Question from a Newbie, Vegetarian Eats Question

Hi there, this will be my first TBF and I am super excited.
So, I will be camping at Town Park and cooking most of my meals, but I was wondering if anyone knew about the vegetarian options at the restaurants in town? Also, once inside the venue, are there any vegetarian options from the food booths?
Also, is there a some sort of health food store in town where I can stock up on things like tofu?
thanks much

There is one grocery store a short walk away from Town Park, another a little bit longer walk or a quick shuttle/bike ride which is a bit bigger with more selection. All sorts of stuff there - kosher pork, vegan sausage, free-range veal chops, etc. Lots and lots of restaurants in Telluride, and there are various options inside the festival - corn, salads, smoothies, killer flank steak . . .

The rumballs served up Wednesday are definitely vegetarian.

You’re on vacation, man, camping in Town Park - - treat yourself to some bacon, live a little!

Just ask around for Hooch!

Yes, there are health food stores in town and the Village Market has a good selection of organic (high priced) foods.
In the festival there are some pretty good vegetarian selections. Even I like the veggie stir fry. :thumbsup

I actually love the taste of bacon and miss it, but have not had bacon in over 15 years. No bacon for me. Although, there is a fake bacon product I might bring :thumbsup

I can assure you that Crunchy Frog is vegan. I’ll also be offering bacon (possibly by force) to any and all vegetarians or vegans who want to walk on the wild side.

You fill find plenty of vegetarian options inside and outside the festival.

Remember, I’m not a vegetarian because I love animals. I’m a vegetarian because I hate plants.

I had to keep myself from smiting him just for no reference to Bacon in his post!! :lol :lol :lol

You will find all you need for all your needs… I promise
try a yelp search for restaurants… all else that you asked for will be in abundance in the main market on your way in on the right.

Have a great fest… Da Guv :pipe

Fake.Bacon.Product???

I may weep. Or have a panic attack. Gotta go call my therapist. Bye.

The vegetarian continued peeling the banana, despite it’s blood-curdling screams of pain and horror. :dance

But seriously, there are a bunch of vegetarian options inside the festival, a local supermarket (not sure if they have tofu) and I’m sure plenty of restaurants around town that have veggie options.

thanks all. And if there are any vegetarians that see this and want to join me for a veggie meal at the campsite, hit me up. Non-vegetarians as well

The salads and stuffed grap leaves at the Greek booth ROCK! :medal

If I remember correctly, the Killer Flank Steak has some vegetables on it. That’s probably as close to vegetarian as I’ll get.

Same goes for the “Sisters” chicken/basil dumplings. :flower

There’s normally vegetarian option inside the fest for: pizza, stir fry, indian booth might be entirely vegetarian, burritos, and various sides. Sister’s spinach & cream cheese wontons are vegetarian (oil?), although I made the mistake of asking for “wontons” two years ago, assuming they were s&cc, but it was a pork flavor … they were out!

Unlike the northwoods of Wisconsin, you’ll find at least one decent vegetarian option at 99% of the restaurants in Telluride. La Cocina has a “vegan plate”, which is great, but they raised the price recently by 20% (on that item).

If you’re coming from either Montrose or Durango, I’d suggest stocking up at the Vitamin Cottage / Natural Grocers.

ShatteredArm, I love the picture you threw in there. Great show and that was simply the perfect place for it. :cheers

Now back to business. Several of the food vendors inside the festival grounds have excellent vegetarian options. I’m a huge carnivore, but I still enjoy some of the meatless meals they’ve got for us.

Are you from the Northwoods?!

Does Bacon flavored peanut brittle pass the vegan test? :huh

No, but originally from Chicago … so was up there a lot growing up. Went back for a trip a little while ago & found it to be THE most difficult region for eating out as a vegetarian. Still an amazing area though! Are you a cheesehead?

Yep, I’m from the Minocqua area (live in Green Bay now). It is hard finding vegetarian stuff up there, but it’s getting better. It’s great to hear that there are going to be some veggie options in Telluride-I was really hoping to not bring a bunch of food with me!! Thanks!

Glad this thread was started. I’m a “born again” vegetarian. Became one on Thanksgiving 2010 and feel amazing because of the change! Last year at TBF I was all about the corn dogs…lol…this year I’m definately going to try the veggie stirfry. If you don’t mind spending a little more, there is an amazing Thai restaurant in town…I can’t remember the name, but you can make almost any dish vegetarian :flower

Anyone reading this please note that I have dibs on all these people’s share of the bacon! So you other bacon moochers need to go find your own vegetarians somewhere else!
