New Warner Field land grab rules

What’s up with the new changes? So you can line-up pedestrian only beginning Tuesday but can’t get in the field to lay out tarps until Wednesday? What is the point of that? And is that an improvement over the old system of just driving up Wednesday and unloading? Maybe I’m missing something but this seems more complicated for no gain. Maybe one of you understands this better than I do. But stand in line potentially all night to lay down a tarp???

Perhaps I should approach this differently. Did the rest of you Warner Field campers get the planet bluegrass email today about the changes? Any comments on it?

I am trying to come up with a new set of plans. I wonder what we need to do differently. It seems there was a sizable group there last year on Wed morning. Is there a large group planning on coming Tuesday night, parking and spending the night in line? Of all of you that camp in Warner, how are your plans changing? how many of us are part of a larger group with people coming later? Over the years, I have watched people arrive throughout the first day, some arrive the second day, etc. and I have watched people leave Saturday, so I guess a lot of that won’t change. the question is, Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, right?

Though nobody has responded with the reason for the changes yet? I suspect it has something to do with cars lining up in the residential area and illegally parking. So to do away with that, we now have to line up on foot earlier. That creates it’s own set of problems for us, especially starting out the festival tired. I’m 66 and don’t look forward to a night in line. But eventually that’s where it will go. So I guess I will end up being the sacrificial lamb so to speak and line up some time Tuesday with the tarps and my two buddies can be comfortable and get a good nights rest in their camp. Oh well, this is how festivals evolve. Things keep getting re-worked.

can you tell me what the email said as I did not receive it . tess

Warner Field Camping Load In Procedure

The Warner Field Campground opens Wednesday, June 15th, at 9am. If you are planning on arriving prior to the campground opening please follow the instructions below:

· The land grab line up for Warner Field will be pedestrian only beginning Tuesday, June 14th. The line will start outside of the northeast corner of Warner Field, by the Town’s campground office.

· Prior to lining up, please park your vehicle outside of Town Park and FOLLOW ALL TOWN OF TELLURIDE PARKING REGULATIONS AS POSTED.

· When the campground opens Wednesday, June 15th at 9am, campers will be permitted to walk in and lay out a tarp or tent.

· Upon walking into campground the Camping Supervisor will issue you a Warner Field Load In Permit.

· After receiving the permit and laying out your tarp, all campers must walk to the Box Office for their wristbands. The box office will be open:
o Tuesday June 14th 10am – 6pm
o Wednesday June 15th 9am – 9pm

· Then and only then may you drive your vehicle into Town Park to unload. All people inside of the vehicle must have wristbands to enter Town Park. You will be given 20 minutes to unload.

· Upon leaving the park the Vehicle Gate staff will direct you to a free parking spot.

Load In Procedure:

  1. Park car legally in Town and line up on foot outside the northeast corner of Warner Field.

  2. Enter campground and place tarp/tent starting at 9am on Wednesday June 15th.

  3. Receive Load In Permit from Campground Supervisor at entrance.

  4. Walk to the Box Office to get wristbands.

  6. Present wristbands for all people inside of the vehicle to the Vehicle Gate Staff.

  8. Drive out and park car for free as directed by Vehicle Gate staff.

The one thing I don’t understand is even though the town park office is open tuesday we can’t use it til after we lay our tarps on wednesday. A little confusing but sometimes change is.

I fly into Montrose late tues and we plan on driving in early weds. Guess I will end up at the end of the line. Has Warner been a madhouse in the past, in regards to the land grab there?

Perhaps there are baseball activities on Tuesday night?

Warner is a baseball diamond, right?

Just throwing out an idea…

Who is staying in Warner?

Not sure if the gripe is about the “pedestrian only” bit, the “line can form beginning Tuesday” bit, or about the Wednesday entry bit, though.

Either way, sounds like you’ll be in with plenty of time to festivate

PB folks have always been apologetic but straightforward about their inability to control the Town’s pre-arranged activities and their access to our favorite places. Sounds to me like they’re trying to do their best to get the space available as quickly as possible.

That said, camping in line to stake out a place to camp doesn’t sound all that fun to me.

On the upside, it’s all good! I’ll just get a chance to FESTIVATE! early in line. It will be like a dry run of the tarp line later. FESTIVAL!!! :wave

There was a vehicle line that was fairly long last year, but I don’t know how many people spent the night in their vehicles. Most people arrive during the day, unload and set up camp. There are people arriving all day and some that won’t get there until Thursday.
I don’t know how this will impact creating the pathways through the camping area, but the paths are a very good idea.
It seems that there are people that have special places in mind when they go into Warner and that will probably continue to be the same.
I am not sure of spending the night in line, or leaving early to sleep outside in a line. that sounds like an extra night of no sleep. there are a number of groups of people that camp together in Warner, I hope that can continue.
let us enjoy this the best we can

Essentially, this is the reason for the new rules.

The idea is to try and somewhat alleviate the HUGE line of cars that backs up onto Colorado Ave. during the unloading procedures.

I was informed to park my car in line last year on Tuesday night, we were about 30th in line (with a couple of line cutters) but Wednesday morning didn’t seem too bad. We got our traditional spot.

I paid for a hotel Tuesday because of the new rules this and last year, but there is no way I am staying in line overnight, I will be doing that all festival! Guess I will be getting up early and HOPE that I won’t be too far back in line, but if we can lay down a tarp to claim land and unload before noon, I am okay with the new rules.

I don’t plan to arrive until Wednesday morning. Do the new rules mean that I have to park in town, walk into Town Park, get my wrist band, walk back to my vehicle, then drive into Town Park to unload?

In the past I have arrived in the middle of the day on Wednesday and had no problem finding a camping spot. I don’t understand why people need to lay out tarps ahead of time. Are certain spots on the field really that much better?

Sorry, I just don’t understand why I have to park my vehicle twice. :huh :frowning:

Ok I understand that some people have traditional spots, so I don’t have a problem with laying out tarps ahead of time. I’ll just adjust my game plan slightly and follow these rules. No big deal, I just wasn’t sure if the rules applied for people who weren’t concerned about laying out a tarp ahead time. :flower

is there a close place to park overnight so we don’t have to walk a mile to get the rest of our stuff??

I think that is in the rules about parking legally before you unload. None of us will know until we get there, I think. We are going to learn this first hand this year. Will this be the case for next year? I hope it goes well for us.

In the majority of places in town you have to pay to park from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. :eek

Or, there’s a two hour limit …
