Maybe I’m naive, but after re-reading accounts of what she had said and also her open letter released yesterday, I’m now perhaps more inclined to believe that she was simply a bad communicator and possibly just being cynical. I can’t say for sure, but at the least I am much more hesitant to jump on the bandwagon.
Wow, thanks for the incredible negative energy and buzz kill. Is that something you cook up on a daily basis? Maybe you should give up your tickets if you can’t get into the Festivarian spirit. If you decide to be a decent human being and attend, I’ll be the 6foot 5 man in front of you dancing his ass off, owning your tarp, and hopefully blocking your view. Except during M&S and Dispatch, I may let you have access to your tarp during those sets, but probably not. :lol
Amusingly, the “bandwagon effect” derived from the use of music to promote political agendas in the mid1800s. To claim that those of us who are not interested in being “bandwagoned” by a messenger of hate are actually the bandwagoners is either absurd or uninformed speech. Go to this link, if you want to learn about Michelle’s comments in San Francisco:
While the idea of a music festival in which 10,000 hippies invite White supremacist musicians for a social experiment in tolerance is intriguing, that isn’t the ticket that I intended to purchase.
Thanks, that’s an interesting listen to say the least.
One thing is for sure, she has diarrhea of the mouth - let along being very difficult to follow. Maybe it’s simply my own difficulty communicating verbally sometimes that I’m giving here the benefit of the doubt in terms of whether or not she was “paraphrasing” (for others beliefs). When it’s all said and done, it’s not for me to judge … and only she knows what lies in her heart.
look glowworm, we get that you are noble and whatnot… and far above any of us normal people who dont only comment in haikus. bottom line she stirred up a lot of controversy and i see her “apology” as pretty contrived.
she is a professional musician with her own story to tell, i dont understand why she would claim she was going on a rant about other people’s beliefs. i mean when i listened to the entire audio it seems to me that she either a) really felt that although she doesnt believe that god hates fags, she is completely against gay and lesbian marriage/lifestyle or b) she seriously does have an identity crisis and hasnt gotten over it
This is getting very negative and isnt productive. If you are new to the forum its best to hang back and get the vibe before posting too much. This is a positive supportive place. Whats done with Michelle Shocked is done and its over with, at least as far as TBF is concerned. Can we focus on all the killer bands/sets PB has lined up for us and start celebrating? :flower :cheers :flower
I am with you oddfired, There is way to much negativity over something that has already been settled. I know this is only just my opinion, but I think it’s time to take a deep breath and be glad that the Monks are coming back. The Drepung Monks will be there for the entire weekend, not just one set. So everything is looking up as far as I am concerned. :thumbsup I do want to thank Planet Bluegrass for taking our feelings into consideration. I do believe they did the right thing for us, and I can’t wait for this years TBF to get started.
I think so too! Good thing I’m not running the show :lol. That freedom of speech thing has kinda well, as a writer I have a little bit of a different perspective I guess but as a person she was wrong and thank you PBG
:bday Now lets get this party started! :medal
