Regardless of what she comes out with next, I can’t think of her the same as I once did, and will not watch her version of a gospel set on the Shellman Memorial Stage. If she does have a disorder of sort, then I could watch her perform again one day, but not in this particular slot, or year.
:cheers :flower :huh
Her “current poorly-treated mental illness” is that she’s a “born again Christian”. Nothing worse then the preachy, pontificated rants that these people go on. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that people can find the “light” after seeking it in the “dark” for so many years. However, they use their status as a platform to spew that only “black and white” truths exist, and their new “enlightened” status has them closer to the word of God. When in reality, these people are just former junkies whose new addiction is religion. Seems like Shocked has taken a sip of kool-aid.
I feel the TBF can do without Michelle Shocked this June. Hopefully, if she can get a handle on life she may return in 2014 or later, but now she needs some space to figure things out.
As much as I love my beloved Telluride Festival, and as much as I want to be there for every second of especially for this year. This festival for me is a temporary escape from all of the hate in this world. I would personally walk out for her set. For me and in my opinion only, I refuse to have my festival ruined by a hate monger. I feel that hate like that has absolutely no place at Telluride Bluegrass. I really do appreciate the fact that Planet Bluegrass takes our/my opinion and feelings into consideration.
I respect the Planet’s decision to remove Sister Shocked from the line-up. Personally, I feel there is no place for that kind of misinformed hatred at such a beautiful place. Craig, Steve, Dustin, and Brian, I truly appreciate your handling of this situation.
I do feel quite bad for the Campbell Brothers, however. They didn’t do anything wrong and are suffering for words that they did not utter. I hope they get to do a Gospel set at Elk’s Park at least. It would be unfortunate if their Telluride experience was ruined.
Also, on a side note, let’s not make this a battle between Christians and Atheists, guys. True, there are some hateful Christians out there, but that can be said about any group of people. Most of the Christians I know are very open minded and only preach love. Sister Shocked’s actions in know way represent the opinions of all Christians or all Born-Again Christians.
Agreed Sugar …this is the right thing, but too bad about the Campbell Brothers…they are doing the gospel set at Del Fest…too bad thay couldn’t have stayed on the lineup for T-ride without Sister Shocked…still, happy to hear about the decision and looking forward to lots of peace and love and music and magic in June:) Now, I can safely say that Benay and I will be crying on the tarp for the Sunday gospel set same as we always have;)
Oh man. Bela’s going to be playing in Telluride with a one week old at home. That’s rough. At least I get 3 weeks off in August when my little bundle of joy arrives. Bela should start a pickers’ union or something.
Other festivarians have told me that John Cowan is touring with the Doobie Brothers, but wouldn’t it be GREAT to have PB surprise us and fly him in for Sunday morning!!! THEN the 40th would be complete
