Thank you for this Todd… It is hope for community and music that I know we all really need right now. (Even if we experience all that community from safe distances. There has to be a safe way to do a beer share, right?)
I’m certain by then we’ll all be experts in being safe from a distance. Hoping by then we can exchange hugs, and hi fives. But I can deal with waves and smiles.
Now that we sadly have closure for this year, there are other things that we have to take into consideration. What about the fate of Planet Bluegrass itself? Will they still be around in 2021? There is a possibility that the fest could reemerge in a different form. Something to think about. Anyway, we hope to see you all alive and healthy next year. :cheers
Has anyone had any responses about tickets? Refunds or ability to hold tickets for 2021? I’d gladly let the Planet hold our money for bankroll for 2021, and make it the best yet. So far we haven’t received any info about options. Crossing fingers. Hope y’all are doing well. Oklahoma has been doing in state testing not dependent on Federal, and our in State peak is supposed to happen next week. One of the giant testing and processing facilities is just down our street in our neighborhood. Luckily as a State we are still one of the lower case numbers even with our ramped up testing, but we went on lockdown March 13. It’s weird around here, as I’m sure it is in everyones woods. Be safe, there’s an end coming and with it lots of dancing! :cheers
Well now Buck that is an interesting thought. Exciting! But isn’t it about time for Ferg to trade in the cows for Golf Clubs. Maybe build Hotels and tiny cabins and bring it all home to Lyons that would be epic. Lots of cash injection to the town. Aw Ferg knows what to do… :medal He will be fine he is a cleaver Gentleman and is most likely buying all the TP in town. :lol
Any insight on dates for TBF 2021? June 17th - 20th? (20th is Solstice). Property managers are letting people put their 2020 deposits down for 2021 without a penalty. Thought I would check.
According to last years program the future dates are June 17-20 2021 and June 16-19 2022
So we will see, hopefully the Planet folks still call it the 47th Annual TBF that way we can keep our streaks going…
Thanks Al! Hope you are well and brewing up some good syrup!
Just moved my lodging reservation to June 2021. I’m going the optimist route. Rate only changed $17.00 for the full stay. I don’t know what festival 2021 will look like, but I feel like it will be a celebration for the books.
Stay well everyone!
I’m not sure this is the correct forum for this question so feel free to slap me if not, but is there a certain agency that most of you on the board go through for lodging during the fest? I’ve only camped when I’ve been, but with two tiny children the lodging route might be the way to go for a few years.
Thanks in advance!
I’ve found lodging via a variety of options. Most have been reliable with one exception. Air bnb has completely screwed me around during festival. I’ve been grossly overcharged for a room that had nearly nothing it advertised ( and my bed was a mattress on top of a wardrobe, I’m not kidding) but even worse I’ve had lodging cancelled at last minute more than once as the apartment mysteriously became unavailable in the week before the festival. When you are flying from Australia this becomes a major problem and I ended up paying thousands of extra dollars to score lodgings at the last minute.
My advice is to use the accredited lodging services in town, they are pretty good and to avoid air bnb during festival like the plague ( which is appropriate for this time I guess).
I’m normally a sunshine positive type and I am besotted with PB and the festival. The only thing that really burns me is the way Air bnb owners exploit people coming to the festival. Rotten practises.
Town Park camping is more fun!
I have camped and done lodging (in the pre-AirBnB days), but after nearly freezing last year, I just caved and decided I like a dry warm place to sleep. I stayed at Manitou 25 years ago for Bluegrass when I was a regular, and it hasn’t changed much other than pricing It’s one of the last non-boujie places to stay in Telluride and I love it. I highly recommend Alpine Lodging who manages this property and about 300 others. They are locally operated and the people who answer the phone are locals. Really. Once you book for a festival, you get first dibs on the next year AND a discount on other stays. I live close enough to go down a few times each year and took advantage of that perk.
*I have no financial interest in Alpine Lodging. Just really impressed with their service since I started using them.
I have had the same experience with VRBO and AirBnb in resort towns. We have had lodging yanked out on short notice because a property sold and the new owners didn’t want to honor the bookings.
Great advice, everyone! Thank you and I’m looking forward to meeting some of you at next year’s festival!
Saw this today, made me smile.
