willie at Red Rocks

Is anyone planning on going to see Willie Nelson at Red Rocks on June 21st? I’ve never been there and would love to go, and I love the Red-Headed Stranger. I’m just a bit worried I’ll be pretty tuckered out. Too bad they couldn’t get Willie at Telluride.

Willie was there in '94, I think. Would definitely love to see him on the Bluegrass stage again. Willie is still going strong!

Free Willie! :pipe

Willie=Snoooooooozzzzzzzzzee time. :wink:

OK - random question…

How many folks think those braids of Willie’s are real???

I had a very nice gentleman come in the store last weekend and asked if we sold bandannas. When I heard the voice, I heard Willie. I turned to look him in the eye and the face fit but the hair was very short.

Hummmmmmm…

willie cut his braids off a little while ago, so he does have short(er) hair right now.

And Willie Nelson has put on some of the best concerts I’ve ever seen, I love that guy!

I heard Willie cut his braids during the whole BP oil spill debacle when they were asking for hair donations to help absorb some of the oil. Auntie Hope…how’s the ol’ fellow doing?

Let’s go to Luckenbach, TX!

It was really weird, I’m tellin’ ya. He looked good for… being Willie. It was just a few moments, we didn’t have what he wanted and I gave him directions to another store close by, but I can’t shake the feeling that I wanted to say more to him.

Scene…
I’m 15, at one of his shows, sitting in the second row. A fight breaks out right next to me and someone’s beer is dumped over my head and down my back. The fight is broken up and when I look back at the stage Willie is standing right in front of us. He’s still playing but calls out to me, “YOU OK?”. I nodded yes. He responds with a nod to me and then shakes his head with a scowl as he watches “the bandits” being hauled off.

At 15, it made a big impression on me then, and still does to this day, that the guy on stage cared enough to find out if I was OK. I probably just want to thank him, even 32 years later.

Hope he found that bandanna!

That is a great story. I adore Willie Nelson. The man is a beast.

Reading through the threads here to learn more about TBF, and came across this one. Willie Nelson at Red Rocks?! I’m jealous. Go!!! Grew up in Denver, but never got to see Willie there. Too tired? Get some Red Bull. Saw Willie last fall at the Puyallup WA fair, where I’m currently stuck living (it’s oK but would rather be back in CO) If you are referring to the actual Red Headed Stranger album, his sister played “Down Yonder” on the piano. If you go and sit up close, make sure you get towards the top rows at some point to check out the “Bright Lights” of “Denver” you may know is another track on the Stranger album. Red Rocks is a gorgeous venue!

Looking forward to our 2nd TBF soon! Stopped in for a day last year, but this year we’re doing the whole enchilada. Took me long enough to finally get there!

just got some tickets for WILLIE! thanks for the pep talk vagabond. I forgot my own advice for anybody in any situation- ‘suck it up’. plus now we’ll have a day off on monday to explore somewhere between Telluride and Denver.

and the music never stopped…

that’s hilarious. PB books Sarah Mclauchlin and you call (The) Willie Nelson snooze time!
fun director, eh…
really, though, last year at Willie’s Red Rocks show, i saw old people yell at younger people to sit down and people thrown out for smoking a little grass. really weird for the venue and for the talent.
to our aging music community, quit being such ass-hats! get up and dance if the person in front of you gets up and dances and you can’t see. be HAPPY that someone around you is having a blast! if you get beer spilled on you, you can be a little bit of a sour-puss (but for only 15 seconds). if it starts to be that you just can’t muster any fun anymore, stop going. let someone with the mind to enjoy themselves have your seat.
“we paid our money to be here, too, now sit DOWN”- old white folk

Wow, someone actually listened to me! No one in my immediate family does…well… I did talk my college kids into road trip to TBF. Enjoy Red Rocks!
