Ahoy! I’m a Telluride newbie this year and was just wondering what kind of beer selection does the festival have?
I’m a HUGE fan of Colorado microbrews, but was a little disappointed that RockyGrass only had New Belgium on tap last year.

Unless something changes this year, it’s the same at TBF – only New Belgium. Last time I went, I think it was Fat Tire, a version of the wheat, the 1554, and Ranger.
That said, at least two stores in town have a good beer selection – not for bringing into the festival, of course, but there’s access outside of the grounds to drink on a greater variety.
Damn. That’s what I was afraid of. It’s a shame that New Belgium monopolizes the fest when there are tons of other up-and-coming breweries that could really use the exposure… and a lot of them are way better than New Belgium too, in my opinion.
Oh well! It’s still going to be an AMAZING weekend.

While I agree, I also think about the number of times I have spent $8 on a “premium” Heineken just to avoid Budweiser, and I’m grateful for my $4(ish) Ranger

Last year the Sunshine was very good and drinkable for all day party. Overall a very well rounded selection,at least until late Sunday night.
I think New Belgium actually donates all the proceeds from beer sales to KOTO, the Public Radio station in town, which is pretty awesome.
And the prices are pretty reasonable. And after the fourth or fifth one of the day, well…
Are the aluminum refillable cups used as Telluride as is common at other festivals (e.g., kleen canteen) and if so does one have to buy one or does one come with entry?
Or should I bring one with me?
They sold those cups 2 years ago but at that time did not allow us to use them in the beer line – I assume they are 16 oz while the plastic reusable beer cups (available at the beer booth) are 12 oz, but I would need confirmation on that. Did that change last year?
I, too, was hoping we might be able to use these stainless cups, but am not optimistic about it.

Wow, Excitable Boy, before you start throwing around “It’s a shame that New Belgium monopolizes the fest” you get some information about why Planet Bluegrass has partnered with New Belgium for all these years. As The Goat says, all the proceeds from beer sales go to KOTO. Stop by the KOTO booth and ask how that works out for them. As far as beer goes we all have our likes and dislikes, but one thing hopefully we all agree on is it’s nice having craft beer as an option and knowing each beer we have is helping out KOTO. SO drink up, everyone wins.
New Belgium is also one of the most sustainable breweries in the US. Fits right in with PB in that sense as well.
I remember a small grocery store right by Elks Park that sold single cans. I enjoyed some of the local flavor during Elks sets.

Heheh, no worries. I think the food and beverage selection is pretty outstanding at Telly. Beer aficionados have different faves, and ultimately that’s good for everyone
I went to school in Ft. Fun in the early 90s when New Belgium was just getting started, so I’ve got fond memories of riding the bike down and filling up growlers there and at O’Dell’s.
We’ll have to catch up and drink one of these fine beers together this week
I sure wish the festival would pick up some Oskar blues beers for sale. Mmmm dales.
Did anyone determine if we can get steel cups filled at the fest?
My memory is probably fuzzy on this, but I think I used my steel cups last year. Of course, it may have been when we were camping after the fest. Like I said–fuzzy–but I’m bringing them along this week!
Hmm some good ideas think I will fill my car up with some Bristol and Oskar blues, have those while I’m camping and New Belgium at the festival
Those steel cups sound, actually I have one from a bicycling ride I did last year but it is also 16 oz.
