Ok, so I’ll begin by saying nothing- nothing comes close to this festival and the incredible talent that congregates in Telluride every year.
But as I remember, almost everyone invited fellow musicians to come out and jam with each other, and did so FREQUENTLY! This was always special. It seems like within the last few years that this trend is gradually disappearing. Sure, there were some guests appearing on stage with other musicians, but from what I can tell, it happens less and less. My friends wondered the same thing. Is there something I don’t know? Please let me know if I’m crazy and it’s all in my head… :huh
This was my first telluride and I had the same thought.
Specifically the Yonder opening set up on the mountain guest free was kind of weird to me, I thought for sure that would be guest heavy.
It’s a minor complaint overall. Had I not made it into the Punch Brothers Nightgrass I would have been pretty livid.
I’ve been to several of those Yonder opening shows, and listened to other via Archive, and they rarely pull out guests at that show. They usually save that for the mainstage and the SOH.
Huh? Im having a hard time thinking of a band that DIDNT have at least 1 guest. :huh
I was going to say, I thought there was plenty of great sit-ins … Sam Bush CLEARLY added a whole new acoustic dimension to Land of the Navajo (which was also played the night before @ the moon).
Was actually commenting to someone during the festival about how it was great to see the cross-polination here vs. Telluride Blues & Brews where its very rare to see sit ins.
Sam Bush, Chris Thile, Jackson Browne, Sarah Jarosz, Bela Fleck, Tim O’Brian, Jerry Douglas, Sara Watkins and thats just off the top of my head. Not a bad guest list.
