Just wondering what was everyone’s favorite sets were this year!
For me it would be GSBG main stage closer on Friday! Love that they finally got to play on the main stage at that time. We’ve been waiting to see The Lil’ Smokies since last year, and they did not disappoint … :burn, and I can’t wait to see and hear more from them! :medal Of course the House Band closed the festival while we howled at the rising moon with John Cowan … that was another awesome set!!
Of course I could never pick one…
Loved the house band- especially the guys allowing Edgar to let loose on Green Slime. A big high light.
Kruger Brothers- incredible
Ryan Adams with the Dusters…he should make an album with 'em…
Delma- Always good but they were on fire last Thursday.
Shane Koyczan- Blown away. I’ll make sure my kids are in the Fam Tent next time but I was transfixed…
And how about Victor Wooten and Howard Levy? They were beyond anything I’ve seen- even for them. Any one catch the move where Victor kept the chord (his hand) stationary and slid the bass guitar instead of his hand? If you blinked you missed it. A guy like that comes along every couple of centuries…maybe.
Sam, Chris T, Bela and the usual Mozarts were and are always good too of course, which is never a surprise.
Kruger Brothers and Shane Koyczan :medal :medal Lil Smokies :cheers
The composition was just off the wall excellent. OUTSTANDING Kruger Brothers. Just heart stopping…
Shane was riveting. His gift is expression and it woud have been a real crime to hush him with anti anything. He shows us through his words alone that we are in fact all connected and the world needs to hear truths good and bad. Just so special. That set left me wanting more of him. :medal
I thought this year’s festival was fantastic! Every day was wonderful from start to finish. Night Grasses were the same. My highlights were:
Ryan Adams Telluride Redemption Set with the Dusters. We were really lucky to see such a combination of world class artists. Newport Folk Festival is a must for me now!
Greensky both on Main Stage and Night Grass blew me away. I love their new songs and the direction they are taking themselves.
Stringdusters both on Main Stage and Night Grass were superb. I love how different combinations of them dial in together rather than just doing circle solos.
I always love Dave Rawlings Machine and John Prine.
While all the House Band regulars were really good, Jerry Douglas’ set was the one that really caught my attention. Funky and accessible!
Loved many of the new artists with Lol’Smokies my standout favorite. Main Stage, Elks Park, Wander In sets were all great! Look forward to watching this band grow
Thank you PG for yet another magical Telluride festival!
Holy Greensky face melt, am I right?! Dear Planet - please assure me now that they’ve been given a nighttime slot they’ll always be given a nighttime slot. Their Palm show blew everything else out of the water. I think they felt the heat out in Denver.
Of all the sets there, IMHO, I think the Lil Smokies killing it at 11 AM had to be the best unexpected set. I have never seen any band rip off a set like that in that time slot.
Burning down the stage at 11 am was incredible. Seeing the look on Sugar’s face as they were killing it was also awesome … knowing how much he has been talking up his hometown favorite, winning the band comp. and then that set! Pretty freaking cool!! :burn
Another great year in the happiest place on earth! My favorite main stage set was (no surprise) Greensky. I’ll echo Skubes and say they need to keep their nighttime slot in the future. It’s all about energy for those late night sets to keep people going and nobody has it like Greensky right now.
There were several other sets I enjoyed but a few that stood out for me were Dave Rawlings, Balsam Range, Lil’ Smokies and Sammy. I also enjoyed the Stringdusters on the main stage and at the Palm.
I must also say the Greensky nightgrass on Saturday was out of this world :eek I’m approaching 50 Greensky shows and that was a top 3 all-timer for me. You can tell when they put that extra something into making a show special and they definitely had that going Saturday. When you get an All 4 opener (followed by Julius no less) you know it’s going to be one of those nights!
Oh man the light show at the GSMFBG nightgrass was crazy good and the energy in that room was palpable. Both Greensky shows were so on point. See you all at RedRocks and the Boulder theater!
Smokies on the main stage, encore at Noon? What?
They so deserve to be playing a night slot in the coming years.
Dusters and GreenSky Nightgrass shows were everything we expected and more!
The vibe for the GreenSky show was totally electrified from the opening note, of the first song.
Crowd was insanely into the show, which makes it that much better.
My only wish is that the final main stage shows started earlier. Having to leave to catch Nightgrass shows
Also, a lot of families w/ kids bail, as the temps drop quickly after 9PM.
Yes i saw it and it was fantastic. Very, very amusing show, great playing and the crowd loved Pinball Wizard. I was a little bit sceptical given i’d seen original The Who concert in the seventies but they killed it. Definitely a highlight.
