What to Bring???

:wave Since these types of questions always get asked, should a permanent topic be created with all the wisdom of this forum so there’s a definitive source for that info? Everyone brings such a variety of cool things, lots of them innovative homemade camp cheats! :thumbsup

I thought I’d put the basics of Food/Shelter/Water of what we bring as a start. Busting my ass to get this new piece of cast iron properly cured at the moment. :cheers

What about a tent heater?
Also:

I have also considered a tent heater but every one indoor safe one I looked into said that it may not operate above 7,000 ft. Does anybody have first hand experience of using one successfully in Telluride?

Coleman Pro Cat if you can find one

Anyone have a way to keep spices from becoming a solid glob at the end of the festival?

Throw plain rice in with spices to absorb moisture

Had to check our owner’s manual for altitude over 7000ft.

"When operating the heater at altitudes over 7000 FT the unit may not burn as bright as in lower altitudes. This is normal. At higher altitudes, the heater may shut off. If this happens, provide fresh air, wait 5 mins. and re-light.

I’ve never used a tent heater, we’ve actually never had to use the back-up sleeping bags we bring. Having the down comforter below us with a very heavy wool comforter makes a snuggly bed. We also don’t use the tent for anything but sleeping and changing clothes. Hangout time is for the easy-up.

Fred, whats the small stool for?

It’s amazing that I survived 31 Telluride’s without a packing list. Although that first year I did almost freeze at night besides getting burned by the sun in the day. No Festivarian forum to help us newbies back then.

Because your truck is always packed, right? :medal

Any list that does not include a “Foot Slave” is simply incomplete.

Fact! Rookies… Some of us only subscribe to the holiest of scribes, :thedude Hippie Jerry :peace, when it’s time to pack for Telluride.
BillyBeru and I have learned the hard way, and the nightmares continue… :festival

I’ve had plenty of success with this one:

:thumbsup

Thanks Tom - that’s one of the ones I looked at that had the 7000ft maximum elevation so I’m glad to hear it may work.

You got that right, Scott. Damn kids these days - are you still on my grass?

And for you newbies, one thing I would add to Hippie’s list is earplugs, in case you ever want to nap or sleep. It can get a little noisy in the campground. Then again, for many in Town Park
, sleep is optional. :evil

We use the stool early during the day as a foot rest and or table.
When it gets crowded near the front we stand on it to get a better view.
It is only 6" high. We are both kind of short.

fyi:

We always have extra free ear plugs. Just look for an older guy with white beard wearing cap/shirt with New Orleans Jazz Festival most days in the area between sound board and stage each day.

“older guy with white beard” that might be a difficult one to single out! I’ll have to get closer to make out the Jazz Fest gear! We’ll search you out. I’ll be the guy with a whiteish beard and the hot wife.
