Are bears a concern at Mary E. campground? Also what is the river looking like, gonna bring my flyrod.

Bears are only a concern when they don’t bring their own food and drink to a party. As for the river, you will be there, the river will be there, so bring the fly rod just incase the river gives you that one perfect run. If you don’t bring the rod, everyday will be perfect. Murphy’s Law still applies in Telluride!

Auntie Hope

There will be too many people for bears to be comfortable enough to come anywhere near the campers.

It is possible, however, to see some smaller critters like skunks, porcupines, squirrels, and chipmunks.

Leave them alone, and they’ll leave you alone (just don’t leave your tent open). :thumbsup

Thanks for the info, auntie i have fished with murphy a whole bunch, is it pocupine season in co., at that time never had one in a gumbo might be pretty good.

of course i’d have to bacon wrap it before it went into the pot, from what i read here bacon is held in high esteme up yonder, us cajuns consider bacon meat candy!

Fixed that for you

Yes!!! Bears kill people at Mary E every year!!! I cannot emphasize this rumor enough!!!

The bears are usually full after one or two festivirgins but can be distracted with large amounts of donuts from Waldo’s Discount Donuts and Dispensary, the cinnamon kush donut is what Waldo recommend last night at the John Hartford Memorial Festival. Without the special donuts you have to run faster than the other guy.

Are you sure that’s not AJ in a bathrobe?

Please make sure to secure your camp as always tie up or secure food and keep it out of your tent. Bears are here but so many people are about, they lay low. But this is not NYC so yeah you know what to do.

The rivers are too full and fast right now but still fun to fish. :lol So you know what to do on that front too! :medal

Varmints, this is Colorado folks and it is chalk full of nature and weather and some varmints. Respect the land, be kind and aware of the wildlife around you and if your lucky you will see an array of beautiful wildlife! But in all the years I have been to Telluride and on solo hikes in the morning(best chance to see a bear) I have never seen a bear…rest easy. :flower

Lets hit the road already :cheers.

True that. But the traditional cajun recipe for “bacon wrapped porcupine gumbo” reeequires a healthy slosh of Crunchy Frog during the braising. So says my cajun cousin Belizaire EhToi from Bayou Etoufee.

I understand it’s mainly from the group hugs though?

Some folks say there ain’t no bears in Telluride
Some folks never seen a bear at all
Some folks say that bears go around eating babies raw
Some folks got a bear across the hall

So meet a bear and take him on out to lunch with you
Even though your friends may stop and stare
Just remember that’s a bear there in the bunch with you
And they just don’t come no better than a bear

thanks for all the good info, I am used to bears, its them crunchy frogs is what I am concerned about now!

TBF virgin for true, but did bonnaroo 4 times with the kids and Appalachian uprising once by my self, hung out with the Bing Brothers at there camp one night , them West Virginia boys keep lightning in mason jars, that more dangerous than any ole bear!

Quit trying to scare people. you know darn well the mountain lions chased off most of the bears

Isn’t there gold in them there hills?

In the states we spell"there"…“thar”

Oops, mea culpa

^ What LS said.

While bears will mostly stay away from large noisy groups of people, there’s no sense in tempting fate in so far as either attracting or creating a “problem” bear & giving it a strike against it’s life!
