we followed the rules and just froze our butts off
we are definitely going to bring some sort of propane apparatus… because at some point the booze stopped keeping me warm :evil

Those propane patio heaters work well although they cost about $150. :thumbsup
They are a bit bulky to transport though.
…so i’m finding out… i started looking for some online and realized that they’re rather pricey. we probably won’t have enough room in the jeep for it anyways.
i can always pack extra bourbon
Here’s some other, easier to pack, options:
Mr. Heater - runs on the small propane bottles.
Ker-o-sun - uses kerosene.
Table top patio heater - It’s just a smaller version of the one I mentioned.
The Ker-o-sun would require a tank to carry the fuel in, so it may not be that good of an option though.
The bigger group-camps and the camps that have pickin’ rings almost always have some sort of propane heat source. If your camp is lacking, just wander over and warm-up with the folks at the pickin’ circles. The tall patio heaters are great, and propane fire-pits are pretty good too. You can have charcoal fires in Town Park. It’s the only festival campground that allows them. Most groups use propane grills though. I like to cook over a mesquite charcoal fire, and have had no problem with its acceptance in Town park. For general heat, we use a propane fire-pit. You can rent and get your propane tanks re-filled just outside of town.

Tom,
kaptain karlos,
thank you too! i was wondering if there would be somewhere that could refill the tanks for us!
…maybe the lack of a heater is why we didn’t get a bigger pickin’ ring going last year … that or the lack of talent :pickin hehehe! i’ve improved my skills though, and am ready to tear it up!

As for arriving early enough, the bigger your “krewe” or number of campers in your group might affect a timing/space decision. People arrive at all times and I’ve yet to meet anyone who has been disappointed. I don’t think it’s worth any stress, just make sure you have plenty of warmth for the night. Tom saved me my virgin year by bringing me extra blankets. (Thanks for that Tom).
I love the count down - three months will go by fast.

Any tips as to what airport to fly into for the cheapest tix?? I’m trying to spend as little as possible to get there, and Denver is the cheapest so far, but is is worth the haul to Telluride???

you could try montrose or colorado springs.
Howdy folks, I was wondering if a veteran could fill me in on the traffic getting out of T-Ride on Monday 6/25? I will be flying out of Denver that night and want to make sure I can make it back to Denver in time for my flight. Thanks!!
Whitney
You know, I always leave on the Monday after and I’ve never had any trouble with traffic. The speed limits are so slow and the two-lane highways all the way back to Montrose are such that nobody is getting anywhere any faster than anyone else! Did you get all that? I didn’t. Plus I like to cruise through the festival grounds and watch everyone pack up Monday morning after I’m packed. That, of course leads to breakfast and Bloody Mary’s, and then it’s time to head to the Buck for a couple more, and before you know it, it’s late Monday and I’m passed out in a back alley somewhere. Huh. Maybe you’d better ask someone else.
the early bird gets the worm!
:cheers
although it is depressing leaving…especially when you’re looking at a 27 hour drive back home

Well, considering it’s normally about a 6 hour drive and you have to deal with the security screening once you get there…
I’d give myself at least 8 hours! :eek
Trust me, you’ll be so depressed that you are leaving you won’t care about traffic or getting anywhere anyway.
traffic never seems to be a problem heading in my direction, it’s the re-entry that’s the killer. you can easily be out of Town Park and back in Denver by 2:00PM if you need to.
as far as flying in to which airport? Denver is probably the cheapest unless you can hook up a ride out of Salt Lake City (they’re Delta’s hub) . you can check out the “hitchin’ a ride” thread and hook yourself up with one of the many that come out of the Denver area? there is an airport in Telluride but I imagine the hop from Denver is a bit pricey? also they probably don’t have more than a few flights a day.
Hey wait a minute? your going to fly from Nebraska?? even if your from omaha, it’s only 550 miles from Denver?? :drive
I will be driving from Omaha to TBF if you are looking for alternate travel plans and don’t mind carpooling.

Yes, tiz true… but I found a plane ticket for just over $200… with the way gas prices are climbing again, I would end up spending at least $150 round trip anyway… and for only $50 more, I’d be there in one hour as opposed to 7… We’ll just have to see!! :flower
we drove from ohio last year and only spent $150 on gas each way!
…we definitely thought it was going to be more expensive!
i don’t like to fly, hence the driving
Another virgin here.
Just wondering if there are any other tips for those of us staying at Mary Illium (besides getting there early and showering at the hs)?
I wasn’t aware that you weren’t cool if you didnt get into Town Park, so I’ll have to give that a shot next year.
Or, you can deny your “uncoolness” like me and try like hell to find someone to switch camping passes with you . . .
