They won’t release any more. The extra tickets you see for sale on PB’s website are the returned ticket resale. Tickets that, for whatever reason, people no longer want or can no longer use that have been returned to Planet Bluegrass. As far as getting Town Park tickets, it can be a challenge, but if you’re patient, you could find them in the month leading up to TBF. I’d recommend jumping on any four-days you might find and getting camping wherever is available and hope to exchange them for the Town Park tickets should you find some
Sweet. I don’t need a festival ticket as I am volunteering but I’ll just keep searching for town park
Unless I’m very much mistaken, you will, in fact, need a festival ticket even though you are volunteering. I believe the way the volunteer system works is you buy your ticket and then, if you fulfilled all of your volunteer shifts, the planet reimburses you for your ticket. Can anyone from the planet chime in on this?
:wave “Telluride Bluegrass Festival: Four 4-hour shifts in exchange for a 4-day pass. Most positions require for you to work a morning (8am-noon), afternoon (noon-4pm), evening (4pm-8pm) and night (8pm-midnight) shift.”
:cheers
I believe a deposit is held until volunteer duties are completed in lieu of tix.
I’m pretty sure they take a deposit. I think if you had already bought a ticket they would reimburse you for it.
It seems I’ve very much mistaken. I’m volunteering this year, but I’ve already got my Town park ticket. So that’s where the confusion set in, I guess.
Nice! Where are you volunteering? Obviously, you probably know more than I do about volunteer things then…

I’m not sure yet. I just got accepted after they had a big round of cancellations. So I have no real details yet.
Looking at the volunteers page:
- They’ll reimburse your ticket as long as you complete your obligation
- They’ll tear up your deposit as long as you complete your obligation
So sounds like if you flake out, you stand to have a very expensive festival. Seems fair.
I’ve tried to get you a gig pulling our wagon in and out of the festival, but Jasmine has better ideas, i think
Hi, friends!
My wife and I are incredibly stoked to be in Town Park this year. It’s her first time at TBF, while I’ve been a few times back in the 90s and early 2000s, but always with a large group. Thrilled to finally be coming back and to share it with her!
I have two questions for you wise festivarians:
- Since we’ll be there most of the week (arriving early Tuesday), we’d like to bring our roomy 8x10" tent, along with a basic cooler, Coleman stove, camp chairs, etc. Is that too much space for only two people? Will we have any trouble finding a spot? We’re very friendly and don’t mind being nestled against others. We’re also very good at sharing whatever we have.
- I’ve recently picked up the banjo and would LOVE to join in on some late-night jams (even if I’m the slow beginner in the back with the perma-grin). If I were going to brush up on some licks, which tunes should I practice? What are some Town Park standards?
Thanks! FESTIVAAAAAL!

You shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a decent spot. Just be sure you consult with your prospective neighbor so you’re not setting up in their living-room or pathway. :flower

I’m not a picker so I can’t say what to practice. Just join in and have fun. :thumbsup
Got a question about the whole tarp run tradition. From what Ive gathered it seems that the big run is on Thursday but that it happens every morning. What exactly is the deal with it? When do people lineup in the mornings to do this, because it seems like something I would want to do at least for one morning to secure a good spot and to partake in the tradition. This is my first TBF coming from VA with a lady friend and we are absolutely thrilled!!
We’re flying to Denver…arriving Tuesday at 7:30 pm… rental car…Should we drive all night ? We’re lucky to have Town Park camping…couldn’t afford the flights to closer airports…
We think it might be better if we buy tents/bags/pads in Montrose (pre ordered) rather than paying to check as baggage… too much stress!
Why did I ever enter this lottery?
Like Tom said, part way at least if you can! Less time the next morning. But…then you miss the vistas and the views and some of those are pretty great. I’m sure the annual best way to drive from Denver thread will start soon (I’m in the 285-50 camp) and give you many ideas about what you might want to see along the way.
I actually prefer to drive late or real early as there is less traffic, but there are definitely way more animals around the road. And, depending on which way you drive, some of the turns arent ones to be taken bleary eyed.
Or heck, ship your own stuff to the Telluride post office!
How does parking work for Town Park? This is our first TBF and scored Town Park! Unfortunately we can’t get there til wed afternoon so I imagine we’ll be hiking a bit anyway but how bad is it? Less than a mile? More? How much does it cost? We are both in good hiking shape but she is coming from CA so elevation might be a factor… Thanks!

Parking is free. Depending on how fast the lots fill up, you might be parking in town or you might be parking in Mountain Village, which is an easy and free gondola ride over the mountain. You will be able to drive your car in to unload, but you won’t be able to leave it there.

Along with Tom’s comments earlier I’d also suggest that you wander around Town Park, find some friendly folks, and pick a spot before you start hauling in gear. There are a couple/three/five unloading locations. You want to make sure to unload at the closest one to your selected spot.
HI everybody!!!
I kind of live in dolores colorado down the road and and i cant seem to get a town park camping site. I just want to be able to jam all night in town park and dont want to have to sneak in… is there anything to do like a jammers wristband? haha maybe… also,
i would be more than happy to tour guide some people around that show up early such as go to hot springs, kyaking, fishing,or hiking i know the area well.

Unfortunately, there’s no jammers pass. It would simply be too hard to enforce. But if you show up early you can head into Town Park and pick. I believe it’s Thursday morning that Town Park becomes unavailable to anyone without a pass, but it could be sometime on Wednesday, too. Don’t fear, though, Mary E has plenty of picking going on, too. I imagine Lawson does, as well, but I’ve never stayed there.
Total newbie to Telluride Bluegrass Festival.
I have a 4 day pass with camping included. Trying to read through the thread for past information.
Quick question: Which day of the week, 2014, does Town Park camp open for snagging a camp spot?
Nevermind…found the answer: Saturday 14 June 2014. :thumbsup

Mary
