Town Park virgin? Get your answers here!

OK. I posted a new thread asking for info. I probably should have checked out this one first. One virgin perk I can use.

I was trying to find info on the 2008 event in Telluride. Maybe it is too soon? I’m not sure but I miss it every year because I wait too long.

I read a bit about the camping and sounds like a lot of fun. If there is someone who has been there and is willing to share their experience, please reply.

thanks

The Town Park Lottery should happen around the end of October, and other ticket sales will probably start in November. Keep and eye out here and on the Planet Bluegrass web site.
If you have any specific questions, I’d be happy to answer them. :cheers

Thanks …I’ll keep an eye open for more info. In the mean time I will try and read through all of the threads here.

I’m in the process of building a box to fit on a little (3 1/2’ X 5’) trailer frame. As a trailer, it has 2 wheels and a license plate.

Question is: do I need to build the box to be detachable from the trailer frame in order have the box in camp without having to get a vehicle permit for Town Park, 2008? Or are very small trailers that no one in their sober mind would sleep in OK? I might build it to be detachable anyway, but it would be nice to know.

Thanks for any insight-

Ron

don’t quote me on this, but I think if it has a license plate, its considered a vehicle, which means it would need a pass. Anyone?

Sarah’s right! If it has a plate, it needs a pass. Detach the box!

Thanks much. Will do. :thumbsup

Hey everyone. I’m a newbie. I’ve been to Telluride before…camped in town Park for 3 days in the middle of July one year while on a 5 week trip that took me from Arizona to Canada. I really want to attend to 08 festival, love sleeping in a tent, but I’m unsure where to stay…

There will probably be 4 of us. I would love to bring my 6 string and my mountain bike, but I’ll be flying in from FLA. I’ll be packing light, I’m guessing. Should I try to come in and stay in Town Park with my rental car? I am a hiker, so I don’t mind a brisk walk to and from my camp site.

I’ve seen posts by other folks about some other camp sites off the beaten path. I’m sure we’d love to get some sleep, but of course, it’s October 07 right now, and when June 08 rolls around, it might be a different story. I tend to guzzle down rum early in the day at these festivals and fall asleep early…any suggestions?

Honestly, I hate the idea of flying out there and renting a car. I feel like I’m on a stiff business trip or something. All of us are school teachers, and we’d love to just drive out there, but I think we will be finishing up our school year right before this event starts.

SOMEONE PLEASE give me some direction…I want to be at TBF 08, and I’d like to have the time of my life. I look forward to hearing from any and all of you, and I can’t wait to meet some of you come June.

Hiyo! First of all, welcome welcome! So let’s figure this out; unless you camp at Warner Field or Town park, you’ll be taking the shuttle from the other campgrounds 3-7 miles away, which is really no big deal. I’m not sure if you’d be able to find parking if you wanted to take your rental car to/from Town Park and the festival grounds. As for the 6-string, if it’s picking that you’re interested in town park is the place to be! Of course, there is always something going on at any campground you stay at, and if there’s four of you, than you’ll have fun wherever you are. Personally, after staying in TP my first year, I’ll never stay anywhere else. I’m also not a good one for advice on the sleeping thing, I was always the last one at every pickign circle I went to (sometimes lasting til 6am!). However, if it’s sleep you want, TP may be a little rowdy. Anyone else have any ideas? Good luck!

You can always begin by entering into the Town Park lottery.
And if you don’t get in there, begin making plans for other campsites or condo’s.
You will need to start planning before the first of the year as campsites and condo’s do sell out. Good Luck. :cheers

Thanx for the speedy replies. Your info is appreciated!

I’ll tell ya–I’m afraid 1 or 2 of my friends are going to get tired of the overcrowded camping scene…whereas, I’ll be happy hanging out in Town Park, I’m thinking not everyone will be as psyched as I am come day 3 or 4…I am thinking about maybe trying to help them get a hotel room, and I am going to take my chances with the TP lottery…wish me luck!

Although I am familiar with Telluride, I’ve never bothered to stop while passing through Montrose. Is this the only place I can get an afordable hotel? I lucked out in Cripple Creek one year, as I got to stay at an old school house that we just happened to find, but I can’t expect my luck to be that good all the time! What’s the deal with Ouray, Redvale, Ridgway and Norwood? It would probably be best for the two “city slickers” to have an air-conditioned hotel room for a night or two, as not to bring the rest of us down…let me know what y’all think when you have a chance.

Two problems with “affordable” hotels in the area:

  1. You have to travel an hour or more each day to and from the festival.
  2. You have to find a place to park each day you come to the festival.

There’s really nothing close by that’s really considered affordable except maybe Montrose, but that’s about an hour and a half each way. Not the best choice.

If you’re on a budget, I’d consider camping. :thumbsup

If I’m looking to take a trailer to Town Park and get there on the 18th, what kind of spots will still be available?
I stayed in Warner field two years ago and had a blast. This year, my fingers are crossed and my entry is in for the four of us and a vehicle. Also, Are there any problems dropping off a pop-up trailer and parking your vehicle in town if we get there on Wednesday?

Wednesday? Nooooo Problem! :thumbsup

Really? :huh

Finding a spot for a trailer in Town Park the day before the festival starts is going to be a real trick! By that time the campground is pretty full and it’s tough just to find a tent spot. I suggest you get there a few days earlier at least if you have the vehicle pass. :eek

"Also, Are there any problems dropping off a pop-up trailer and parking your vehicle in town if we get there on Wednesday? "

I was answering the above portion of the post, more to the point, the parking of the vehicle.

I am with the Mayor on this one…

My camping-mates ABGAT a week or so early to get their camping spot with a vehicle and a pop-up.

I would DEFINITELY send someone up early with the pop-up. As for parking in town, that can be difficult if arriving the day before the festivities.

Just come early and festivate with the rest of us… :flower

Thanks for the advice. My fingers are crossed for the lottery to go my way. If not, I’ll still have a great time camping in Warner Field. Either way, I’ll be there early to enjoy to festivate!

Ok for the Newbes some Good Stuff in here

hi all - im a noob indeed, and i plan on making TBF 2008 my first festival (thx to bela)… i’m glad i found the forums - between the questions and the answers and the ramblings, pretty much everything has been answered. altho you guys are so damn pleasant about it im almost suspicious  … but hey, i was hoping i could bother somebody (or EVERYbody !) with a couple more questions…

A - i got my camping/festy tickets already - i was looking over the website and read bout volunteering… i mean, does anybody have any experience with this? i kno its 4x4hr shifts @ about $9/hr, which isnt bad other than losing music viewing time. other than that, why wouldnt i want to volunteer?

B - i am not sure if i will be able to drive/get a ride to telluride. when ppl fly into denver/montrose, how do they normally get to TBF? i have the feeling i missed something… do i try to hitch a ride or what??

any feedback very appreciated, thx you. :flower i look forward to sharing good cheer in june with any and all willing :wave :cheers
