Having traveled around SW Colorado the last 3 years, this will be our first TBF. I thought I’d start a new thread about places folks like to stop on the trip to Telluride. So where are some places on your trip from (or back to) home that you just have to stop at for food or refreshment. Last fall we spent a few days in Montrose and enjoyed Horsefly Brewery. We plan on using Montrose as our stock up place before we head to TBF for the week. So what are some have to stop places on your trip. And this just isn’t for CO, but anywhere along your trip form wherever you may be coming from.
cheers
ORVIS! Hot springs…always! :thumbsup
Usually on the way there we are non stop unless we over-night in New Mexico, and that stop is simply for a night in a hotel before the last push to Telluride. On the way home might stop in Taos, or the Orient Land Trust by Great Sand Dunes. We like to save all our free time for things to do in camp, in town, and within walking/riding distance of camp. Once we unload the car we won’t see it again for almost 10 days, and that is a good thing.
Last year we did a couple of days in Glenwood Springs on the way home. Camped, rented bikes, hiked and a quick river raft trip. Did a drive by of Vail - stopped and had lunch, walked around for a few hours. Stopped in Denver for a couple of days - went to Eagles/Jimmy Buffett concert - so much fun.
A few years back we stopped at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. https://www.nps.gov/blca/index.htm
Paonia, Colorado is a cute town, with some local wineries about 2.5 hours from Telluride. http://www.townofpaonia.com/paonia/

We stayed at a cute Air BnB tiny home in Paonia. If you’re interested, I’ll pass on the recommendation.
See ya in June! :sunshine
To and from New Mexico we always try to stop at the Dolores Brewery to pick up a case. Good food too
There is one little spot on the side of the road. just a small pull-off, about 3/4 the way down monarch pass. That we pull over to every year. This spot has a small tube coming out of the side of the rocks. That is about the best water you will ever find.
