That’s why I always like to see/hear Sam’s set from back at camp.
Not only is it easier to hear what’s going on between songs but I don’t have to deal with the loud screams and pushing crowd.
Hearing Sam do “Gimme Shelter” was a special highlight. :thumbsup
I dont know if one should entirely blame the youth for the rude behavior. I got extremely upset during Bela/Toumani because a group of 40-50 year old folks were just freaking screaming and laughing Belligerently right next to me. I could not believe that during a set that was as historic as that, people could not shut the hell up. The fact is, it is rather unfair to blame the youth for rude behavior, although it is certainly warrented to a point.
Not sure quite how it could be warrented, maybe they were a group of orphins, “You can’t blame the youth . . .” - Peter Tosh. Sounded great over KOTO! Always better live, cup your ears towards the stage and folks seem to notice. After less than 19 TBF w/ tarp layed front & center more than 1/2 of those years X4 days and everyone welcome, I must say the after dark flood the front thing could easily be publicly addressed in numerous ways; like: happy to have folks come on up and shake it, just don’t break it, RESPECT.
Hey Billy Beru,
As I said, 2007 was incredible! Whole lotta love was just great as was the whole set.
I will keep my eyes peeled for 2009 in the tapers section of the forum as I would like to hear this years set.
Sam.
PS: Sorry to hear some of the crowd let it down this year, its a shame as I don’t remember any such behaviour when I was over in 2007
May I be blunt? I felt the crowds for the sets of David Byrne, Sam Bush and
Elvis Costello flat out SUCKED!!
I’m sorry, but when it comes to listening to music…I do just that: listen!
I don’t give a rat’s ass how hammered anyone is: There is such a
thing as etiquette, common sense and consideration for others and
their space. This is not new: Last year, I stopped a group of kids
from throwing glowsticks to the stage.
Frankly, whenever somebody starts throwing things like marshmallows,
glowsticks and etc., they should be stopped immediately! Give them
a stern warning and tell them that these actions should not be
tolerated.
I dislike sounding like a hard ass, but I have no remorse here. It’s
high time that these people learn about etiquette and respect for
others and the performing artists; and that the night shows are more
than an excuse to thrash your brain cells and make a complete ass
of yourself.
I can’t see a thing wrong w/ being a hardass, certainly better than a lardass. Better a moron than a moreoff, and once the thing is thrown it’s too late to stop. Let’s help educate the youth and those “adults” that never grew up quite right. Not too hastey to judge and always ready to help. If someones is hell-bent on playing the fool, they will get theirs. I had this girl shouting something about big tits several folks back, not too quietly; over my shoulder I said, “everyone loves big tits.” The vibes behind me changed I turned around to see she was up on me. She said, “skeever.” I looked forward . . . turned around again a while later. . . “skeever stop staring at me. I’m local . . .” "I’m not staring, I’m looking. “If it’s more than two seconds you’re staring, skeever.” “You’re going to have to deal w/ seeing me around cause I’m local too. How did you get so spoiled?” . . . Then she was trying to dance w/ me. Her embarassed young friend apologized for her, if she wasn’t so intoxicated she might have appologized. It is not always easy to be kind and not brash or even downright rude. Ya gotta call em as you see em.
I looooved this show. Gimme Shelter and One Love - wow!
We can only control ourselves, and when dancing just barely, when loving hardly at all. It’s an interesting differance between man and woman, though I can only postulate: in the throws of passion the woman can be nipping at the air, gone though reactive to the dance, and the man still rides a level of self control esp. when enjoying the ride for a long time.
However, with all the spoiled children, and adults, I know the importance of boundries, responsabilities, constantcy, & discipline. I hope my children will not grow up to be anyone elses’ problem, and if they are, that they are educating and forgiven. It’s nice to be right and nicer to be righteous, by the grace of the Almighty. So, often we go off half-cocked thinking we know the truth rather than asking to know. I know I don’t know and that He with greater vision knows all. Why is it so many freaks can except “Mother” Earth yet have issue w/ the Father? Recovering Catholics obviously free from curiosity. Thanks for input!
Peace.
.1 percent is Hooch!
Since Bela went to Africa he has alot of draw.

My friends and I just returned from Telluride for our maiden voyage, were just talking about the Sam Bush set the other day. We were just blown away at how good it was and “Gimme Shelter” was the highlight of the fest for me. I also LOVE Crooked Still. Anybody else love them?
Being the first time I had attended the festival I must say I was impressed at how well it was organized and the friendliness of everyone I met there. I feel truly blessed to have been able to go.
