I streamed KOTO for some of TBF this year. I haven’t seen or listened to any of the House Band tapes yet. I remember hearing Sam making several frontman raps about the 40th anniversary. They played some old favorites, such as Whitehouse Blues. I also remember hearing a Fiddle Tune played, so I’m going out on a limb here, and making this comment from memory. I apologize if I don’t remember this correctly and/or I screwed up this comment.

Track 2 “Fiddle Tune” is Vassar’s Boogie. It was recorded on Vassar’s Hillbilly Jazz dual LP album. The only other time I heard this swing tune played was when I taped the newgrass “Rat-pack” playing it in New York City in 1974…

Vassar’s Boogie mp3 track - played at NY Academy of Music on April 7, 1974

What I’m calling the newgrass “Rat-pack” is John Hartford, Norman Blake, Tut Taylor, Vassar Clements, and Sam Bush

Thanks! I’m not sure if the second tune was Vassar’s Boogie. If so, it’s a dramatically different version, but that wouldn’t be too surprising. Let me know if you hear the House Band again and have any new thoughts.

Great to hear that “Rat-Pack” recording. I guess we could call them the Aero-plane band, too, eh?

Take it easy,
