Telluride High School Camping

First time at TBF and just bought passes for Telluride High School Camping… wondering if you could tell us about the parking policy for loading, unloading, etc. and where we’ll be keeping the car once were settled.

Thanks,
Chip

My guess: You will enter town with your tickets and they will give you some time to unload then you will take your car “up the mountain” to the Mountain Village (ski area) and will park it up there for the week. {At least that’s what I do every year staying in Town Park–not sure if they have “parking” at the high school}.

Is Wednesday at 2pm too late to get space?

Not a high school camper but it always seems
there is room. You should be fine.

There is a ton of parking in the Mountain Village. Parking decks, etc. That’s why they move people up there. You will be fine at any time that you arrive on Wednesday.

{Parking in town on the other hand is quite restricted. If you ain’t local you can’t park there. Those passes (Telluride ‘town parking’ -not to be confused with ‘town park’ festivation area) are strictly controlled and you won’t be leaving a rental car on any curb in Tride}

If you are at the High School pretty early on Wed, you could get a parking spot assigned in the HS parking lot. Otherwise, you’ll be directed to take a drive up to Mountain Village. Follow the signs. Last year, we easily got a parking spot in the structure next to the last gondola stop. Park and take the gondola down.

2pm on Wed will not be too late to stake a tent spot at the High School. You’ll park in Mountain Village.

What about arriving thursday evening for Lawson hill camping? how hard will parking in mountain village and finding a tent spot be then?

Does anybody know if there’s water supply at the Telluride High School Campground?.. or should we plan on bringing in our own water?

Plenty of water.

And the showers are long and hot :thumbsup

There is at least one water pump near the school for all your water needs. People will be arriving all day Thursday, Wednesday around 2 you will have plenty of choices! My advice…don’t camp too close to the green boxes…the doors open and shut all night long! :thumbsup

Hi, how early on Wednesday should we arrive for entry into high school camping and parking area? Is there a mad dash at 8:00am or do campers trickle in ?

neither one will be hard. i camped at lawson hill a couple years back only for saturday and sunday and had no issue at all getting a tent space for lawson. also, if memory serves me, lawson has its own parking lot that serves it so you dont park at mountain village if you are on lawson hill.

:cheers

There isn’t a mad dash at 8 am. There are usually about 10 people and then a steady trickle until there are no more spots in the parking lot by late morning.

There will be great spots all day Wednesday, even after the parking lot fills up.

Don’t go too close to the porta potties or the road. Slamming and driving all night.

Where’s the best spot to pitch a tent at the High School? And how many entrances are there to the field ? Is it kinda of like Warner? I like we have the grocery store right across the street .

Don’t know about entrances, or best spot … but there’s now construction going on at Clarks. They claim they’ll be open continuously until the project is completed.

The Deli/Sandwhich shop called Zest (right above Clarks next to the visitor center) is easily one of my favorites in town … great sandwhiches and soups at low prices (for Telluride’s standards).

Thanks . I’m glad Clarks is going to be open during construction and maybe finished by Festival . I’ll have to check out Zest . Great to have a deli place right across the street . Not cookin this year . I found its hard to cook at 8000 feet . Takes a lot longer . I tried it once and got frustrated . Theirs so much good food in Telluride . I had the best Chinese food I have ever had in Telluride .

:wave :thumbsup

High School Campground is waaaay laidback. there will be plenty of room and quieter than the others.

Families are encouraged to camp here.

Have fun. First come, first served, earlier the better. BTW, I don’t believe there are many trees, so bring shade for early day and hanging out.

Nice Grassy field.

I’m excited to camp somewhere else . I’ve camped in Warner for the past 7 years . Sounds like High School camping is very similar to Warner . Big open grassy area with no shade . It will be nice to stroll through town on the way to the Festival . Might be a good change . Who else is camping at the High School ?

Are the showers free at high school?
