So I happened to be on craigslist today looking for electronic gear and thought I would take a peek at the ticket prices for TBF. After that initial shock I headed on over to stub hub and had to pick myself off the ground. Is Mumford really such a draw that Thursday single days are going for $280.00, and people are buying them? Do people really pay $820.00 for Town Park passes? Who sets these prices? And who in their right mind would pay them? And the best question I have is why can’t PB find out who purchased these passes that are listed at such outrageous prices, cancel the order and resell the tickets to other people? I find it so discouraging that people who really want to go are shut out so scummy scalpers can reap such a profit. That is all.
It is the nature of a capitalist economy. Supply and demand will drive the prices (high demand, little supply), and there isn’t a darn thing PB can do about it. Even if they could, the cost of tracking the scalpers down and punishing them would be prohibitive.
PB must walk a thin line between what old school bluegrass bands people want to hear and what sells tickets. True all the tickets sell out quickly, but without BIG names year to year popularity would dwindle (not saying that’s a bad thing necessarily, just saying). Personally, I don’t think there is another “promoter” (no offense, just the best word I can think of) that walks that line as well as Planet Bluegrass.
As always, cheers and a hearty WELL DONE to the PB folks! :medal :cheers :medal
They do what they can… The best way is to say “NO” to scalpers and tell all your friends as well… What is really needed is a petition to outlaw scalping in Colorado… Anytime you see anything on CL or Ebay, post here and we try and get it removed if possible…Last year, may stub hubs ate their tickets in the end… So, I hope we are making a little difference
