Think we all need to send Sam a get well card and hope he can make it to Telluride this year.
My Dad had a similar surgery, put him in bed for a couple weeks. Hoping Sam a speedy recovery!
I hope he is doing well after that. Of course, my selfish ways hopes this doesn’t interfere with TBF, but I certainly wish him the best health over my enjoyment of listening to him play! I just sent him a hand-written letter this morning. Hopefully he will get it!
“The surgery Tuesday did not go as well as we had hoped leaving Sam in the hospital a few more days for a full recovery from a bowel resection. They have fixed him up and now his body must rest, recover and “wake up”.
Sadly, under Dr’s orders, Sam reluctantly understands that, due to the nature of the surgeries, he must cancel the next 3 weeks of performances. This was not an easy decision, but a necessary one!
Please music lovers, continue to support these fine festivals, all the incredible talent and enjoy Rooster Walk, DelFest, John Hartford Memorial Festival, Kerrville Folk Festival as well as Béla Fleck: Friends & Family
We’ll be missing y’all and hope to see you on the road, Happy & Healthy, just as soon as possible.
Thank you all for your concern, love and understanding, “…and the deafening sound of all this LOVE falling down on me”

GET WELL SOON SAM
{{{healing vibes to Sam}}}
Lots of Heen heading your way Sam, get well, be well, take care of Sam first!
Sam is so wonderful, so much love to you Mr Bush. Get better
Good vibes to the King of Telluride! the World needs a healthy and happy Sammy Bush!
According to Sam’s facebook, “Sam regrets to announce his recovery is taking a little more time than hoped. A bacterial infection of the incision and a viral infection (hospitals are no place for sick people!) have delayed his rather amazing healing all in all.” and he is cancelling his appearances at Blue Ox.
Here’s to hoping Sam get’s well soon, so he doesn’t have to cancel Telluride.
I would never ask a sick, injured or weakend artists to perform solely because I want them to. But, I’m secretly hoping that since Telluride is like a second home to Sam, maybe he’d feel comfortable taking the stage if he physically has the energy.
If he isn’t capable of performing (which I’m really hoping isn’t the case, for the listeners sake, but most of all for Sam’s sake) Who do you all think would replace Sam in the house band?
Hopefully a couple more weeks of rest and recovery will be enough for Sam to make it to Telluride. I have a really hard time even thinking about a Telluride without the King. And I’m sure that it would be harder on Sam than even us longtime Festivarian’s to miss. But Telluride is not a easy place to get to or through even when healthy. He looks and sounds good in the video so holding out hope that it all works out.
Good question about who can replace Sammy in the house band if necessary. Fortunately, there are a few mandolin players around who can fill in (Chris Thile, etc…) What’s more interesting is how would PB fill Sam’s band’s 2 hour slot on Saturday night. Does anyone have Steve Martin’s number?
Get well soon, Sam!
I see they have replaced Sam’s set at Blue Ox with the Traveling McCoury’s Tip their hat to Sam Bush playing a set dedicated to the King of Newgrass.
I hadnt noticed that Al! That will be a fun set by the McCourys I bet!
