Route Planning

We are driving in from Mississippi. Last year we drove straight through to Albuquerque and spent the night. We would like to go a different route this year. Google maps suggests as an alternate route to go through Raton, Salida, Gunnison, and Montrose and drop down into Telluride. Does this seem like a viable route this time of year? We will be in a Toyota 4runner but it is not 4x4.

You’ll be good buddy. Bring your drinkin’ boots, I made some feisty bloody mary mix this year.

We live in S. Colorado and drive the Salida - Gunnison - Montrose - Ridgway - Telluride route every year. It’s is absolutely not a 4x4 route. Very, very pretty with lots of side trip opportunities.

we are doing the overnight trek to Albuquerque LATE Friday night again from W. TN. I thought about taking a different route, but then i started reminiscing about all of that delicious green/red Chile sauce waiting for me in Albuquerque at dinnertime. :thumbsup

That’s definitely a good route. And Montrose will be your last opportunity for big stores in case you need to buy anything.

We too will be getting into Albuquerque later Friday evening, getting dinner and some sleep, hopefully make it about an hour north of there before we find a place to crash. Then we plan to do the Durango-Silverton-Ouray-Ridgway route to Telluride.Hoping to be at camp by 3-4 on Saturday after a few scenic stops and some last minute liquor store runs.
