Hey folks,
I’m not sure if a lot of people are aware of the ROMP festival, but it’s the big fundraising event produced by the International Bluegrass Music Museum in Owensboro, KY. It happens the week after Telluride.
They’ve got a great lineup this year, including Packway Handle Band, Doc Watson, The Isaacs, Michael Cleveland, Dailey & Vincent, Danny Paisley, Claire Lynch, plus international acts G2, Acousticure and New Appleseed Band.
The crazy thing is how cheap this festival is: only $75 for a four day pass and camping is totally free. They also do a family pass for $150 (includes five family members who live under one roof).
Because this is a Museum event, they also have the usual exhibits and talks, but this year they are also holding the biggest ever reunion of musicians who played in Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys. There will be jams and interviews with these guys and the Hall of Fame installation, plus more.
Sarah Hagerman of the SPPS blog wrote a great story about it. You can check it out here: http://thespps.org/blog/2010/04/28/romp-dancing-on-the-shoulders-of-giants/.
And here is the Museum’s official site: http://www.bluegrass-museum.org/general/master.php
They’ve got John Cowan on the bill, but that could change if he sticks with the Doobies all summer, so watch for a substitute.
Catch ya later friends,
g-luv
