Review: Leftover Salmon @ SOH on 3/11 & 3/12

Surprised nobody has started a thread … since they just played in Telluride at the opera house this past Sunday and Monday. Both nights were sold out and jam packed … nice mix of locals and people who traveled to see them.

Apparently, Bill McKay is no longer playing with the band (at least he wasn’t at these shows), too bad … I happened to like his playing and thought keys always added a nice layer to their overall sound.

Regardless, they definitely had the crowd going from start to finish on both nights. They played a bunch of songs off their new album … most of which I thought were very good I can’t remember if it was Drew or Vince who said they were looking forward to coming back to town in a couple of months.

Are they playing this year’s nightgrass at SOH?

It would be my guess that they’d do nightgrass, but not sure if SOH.

(looks like I will have to change title of thread slightly)

Yeah, FOM, since you posted this in the Telluride Bluegrass section, I was deceived!

Bill is no longer with the band, unfortunately. He will be missed.

That being said, I just saw them in Missoula a few weeks ago, and I think they are playing better now with Andy Thorn on the banjo than they have since Mark Vann. Andy is a phenomenal picker and he fits their style so well.

I can’t wait to see them at Telluride, and I hope they do play a Nightgrass, maybe they can do a kick-off party if Yonder wants a break.

Yonder has kick off and Friday night at SOH up on their website.

sorry bb, didn’t intend to deceive :cheers

After seeing EBN at the Palm last year and having to just deal with a packed house for two nights at the SOH, I’m actually a bigger fan of the Palm … at least on the comfort side of things. Not saying I’d forego any show at the SOH, but it’s a total sweatbox in there. Still, there’s no denying the venue itself is kind of like the “6th man off the bench” … almost like another instrument which can be played when everything clicks.

I agree with Matt about Andy fitting in really well to round out their sound.

LoS will be playing in our home town, Bloomington, Indiana on a Saturday night next month. Great night of the week for us old folks. Eliminates one more excuse for not going.

Both of the Sheridan shows (from this past weekend) were AMAZING!!! How about the Alligator??? That was great!! I think their sound now is more distinct - in the sense that you can hear and recognize the synthesis of Andy on the banjo and Drew’s mando. I SO hope they play late night - at least the Sheridan knows it can hold Salmon fans!!! THAT would be the ticket to get, huh?? :thumbsup The Bluebird show in Bloomington should be awesome! I’m originally from Lafayette and lived in Bloomington for a bit - so I am HIGHLY jealous!! I listened to the Missoula stream and that show was great too!! Get ready for the aquatic hitch-hikers!!! :band

WoW listen’ to that now… Andy sounds incredible~~ CANT WAIT TO GET BACK TO TRIDE!

doesn’t he?! You can really hear how he and Drew synthesize together - amazing! So, just a note - someone had an alligator pool raft and the crowd was throwing it around. Eventually, the crooked tail snagged the neck of Vince’s guitar and hung there!! It was hilarious!! Hence, you have LoS’ rendition of Johnny Otis’ Alligator! Andy said he had NO idea what was going on at that point - how funny. THEN - it started to mess with the tapers mic set ups, so someone hung it from the rafter, right at the beginning of the new song about singing from the rafters - what a great night!
