R.I.P. Rusty Wier May 3, 1944 - October 9, 2009

What a good ol’ boy he was too. Saw him many times down in TX at Poor David’s. Sure gonna miss him; died on my birthday no less.

Life goes by much too fast, so “Don’t It Make YOU Wanna Dance?”

Rusty Wier shuffled off these mortal coils yesterday at the age of 65 after battling cancer since 2007.

Rusty was Poor David’s most frequent performer between 1983 and 2002, having performed there over 40 times. He is one of the few artists to have played at all 3 of Poor David’s incarnations.

His shows were always full of entertainment, so much so that we coined the phrase “World’s Greatest Saloon Entertainer” about him and it stuck, because he was. If you heard the first song of his set, you were more than likely there for the last.

He recorded two live cd’s at Poor David’s Pub, one in 1995–RUSTY LIVE AT POOR DAVID’S. and one in 1998==RUSTY AND SON.

Rumor has it that that upon entering the Pearly Gates, St Peter requested “Don’t It Make You Wanna Dance”.

He was one of a kind, and already missed.

peace,
