Hi all- we’re long-time Telluride Festivarians but are making our way to Rockygrass for the first time this year. I’ve looked around but can’t seem to find the answers I’m looking for. I’ve got two little kids and will be bringing a truck camper (not RV), so I’m looking for advice on campgrounds.
-
Are on-site vehicle passes extremely limited/nearly impossible to snag similar to the Town Park situation? If so, should I just try for a Farm vehicle camping pass?
-
Is on-site substantially closer to the MainStage as compared to the Farm, or are they both fairly easy for running back and forth if needed?
-
Generally, what’s the Farm camping vibe? Good picking in all of the campgrounds?
Aside from kids, we also like to pick late, so proximity from camp to party is important
Thanks!
Hi! We’ve been going to Rockygrass for years, and have camped in all of the locations over various years. If you’re a picker, the on-site camping is pretty awesome for your first experience (and also the busiest and hardest one to get sleep in
)
The Farm campground is a 5 minute walk from the west entrance to the festival grounds, or 10 minutes to the main entrance. When we tent-camped there, we just brought a wagon with our chairs and tarp to the festival each day which made it easy. It’s probably our favorite of the options, and there is still lots of pickin’ and singin’ going on under peoples’ canopies, all day long and into the night. You can also float into the festival on a tube from the farm, so that’s pretty cool. Bring your hammock and set it up on the other side of the river beside the main stage, for the ultimate experience.
Laverne Johnson Park is about a 8-10 minute walk to the main entrance, and also has a great vibe. It’s another great option that still feels like it’s part of the festival experience with lots of pickin’ and a nice chunk of river to dip your feet into or wash clothes.
This year we have a 27’ Airstream and were lucky enough to find a Hipcamp spot about 15 minutes up the canyon on Hwy 7, that also has covered wagons and glamping tents for the rest of our group.
