I am thinking of doing TBF for the first time. I am thinking of getting an RV here in TX and driving up, spending a few days at the festival as well as some other days doing activities in CO and NM. I do not think my wife will be down with doing a full 4 days of festival. What are my options? I am guessing that getting into and out of the RV park is not easy. Also, how quickly do the RV passes sell out? Or just convince her to do 4 days of festival???
OK Bad News is “Passes” are sold out …
Good News is there are other Campgrounds around Telluride that you "Might get Lucky "
they are NOT Close !
Best of Luck

Does that “sold out” include the Lawson RV passes, available only by phone- and only with a 4-day festival passes?
As in, “Geez, honey, if we gotta have the 4-day passes, it would be a shame if we didn’t use all the days…”
The 4 days of the festival go by so damn quick that most begin suffering withdrawls sometime Sunday, if not late Saturday. Telluride is gorgeous and there’s plenty to do even if you duck out of the festival grounds here and there.
To answer your question, it’s possible, but not advisable.
The Planet Bluegrass folks can probably tell you if pulling out early or arriving late is an option- that’s if any Lawson RVs are still available. The advantage of Lawson (as opposed to Non-PB campgrounds) is you can shuttle back and forth. Matterhorn (a non-PB) is set up nicely for RVs.
The odds of scoring a Town Park RV (my bad on the RV, meant vehicle) are slim to none at this point- actually, make that none.
A couple of quick points…

you must have a 4-day pass to use an Lawson Hill RV pass. So, if you opt to purchase an RV pass you have to have a 4-day pass to go along with it. If you opt to only attend the festival for a couple of days, you end up paying approx. 3x-4x what it would cost you to drive in for the day.

There is no such thing as a Town Park RV pass. Vehicles are limited to 24’ in Town Park, and there just isn’t room for any bigger vehicles.

while I’m on the subject, if you have a Town Park vehicle pass and don’t plan on camping in your car, send it back to me here at the planet for a full refund so it can go to someone who needs the pass for disability reasons, or maybe has a little one who needs the shelter from the cold weather in a camper.

Very good point for any newbies! Vehicle passes for Town Park are EXTREMELY limited, so please don’t use them just to have your car close by.
Let them go to those truly in need. There’s plenty of close by parking for your car, so if you’re not camping in it, you don’t need it. Period! :flower

If you’re just going to the fest for a couple days, you’d be best off getting some single day tickets. As for camping, I highly recommend the KOA in Ouray … a 40-50 minute drive from the fest. Parking is free in Mountain Village, and you take the free gondola over the mountain down into Telluride. It’s a sight that will live in your memories forever.
Hope that helps.

I would check with Mountain Village on the size limits for parking RVs. Most of the parking is in a garage, and it is too low for just about all RVs. The very top level, which is open, is about the only place, unless they have made some new lots that I have not seen/heard of yet. If you have a small car that you are towing behind the RV, and plan on using it for day excursions, parking would not be an issue.
