Onsite camping lottery questions

Hi all. We will be attending, and camping, for the first time. We were able to get a tent camping pass via the lottery and am wondering how this camp option differs from the other options? Our school-aged kids will be with us, so I’d love any feedback or tips on camping with kids in this location!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Pros:
You’re a lot closer to the festival grounds.
It’s easier to get back to your camp for a quick snack, rest, gather necessities.

Cons:
It’s a bit more compact and up close and personal with neighbors.
There’s more late night picking party’s.
You need to be in line days in advance if you want a better spot to camp.

Thank you! Curious… what do you mean by lining up days in advance for the camping? How does that work? If you wait until that Thursday, will you still have a spot to camp in the area that your ticket covers?

Yes you will have a spot. It just may not be a great spot. Last year was my first year and I showed up on Thursday early afternoon and got a pretty good spot. Folks can leave their cars parked “in line” early the week of Rockygrass. Once the campground opens they will send people over in the order of where they are in the parking line. At least that is the way that it worked last year. With the new Planet Bluegrass farm they may make changes. I wouldn’t be discouraged by not being able to get there until Thursday.
