One final 2010 artist...

As I sit here typin’ up a rather large Notes from the Planet newsletter, it seems like we need one more big artist to complete the festival…

Humm. :rolleyes

I’m sure you guys will figure it out.

Watch for the email announcement late late late tonight…

That’s all you got? No riddles, no fun and games?

Cmon Brian, you’re better than that, kid!

Riddles? Dustin’s much better than I. Guess sometimes it’s important to have an old friend at your side…

LL and his large band?!?! INSANE! :cheers

Billy, do you think? I don’t see the clue.

OK, got it. Perfect!

She left Dallas for California
With an old friend by her side
Well he did not say much
But one year later
He’d ask her to be his wife

And the lights of L.A. County
Look like diamonds in the sky
When you’re driving through the hours
With an old friend at your side

One year later I left Houston
With an old friend by my side
Well it did not say much
But it was a beauty
Of a coal black .45

And the lights of L.A. County
Look like diamonds in the sky
When you’re driving through the hours
With an old friend at your side

So I drove on all the day long
And I drove on through the night
And I thought of her a’waiting
For to be his blushing bride

And the lights of L.A. County
They looked like diamonds in the sky
As I drove into the valley
With my old friend at my side

And as she stood there at the altar
All dressed in her gown of white
Her face was bright as stars a’shining
Like I’d dreamed of all my life

And they kissed each other
And they turned around
And they saw me standing in the aisle
Well I did not say much
I just stood there watching
As that .45 told them goodbye

And the lights of L.A. County
Look like diamonds in the sky
When you’re kneeling at the altar
With an old friend at your side

And the lights of L.A. County
Are a mighty pretty sight
When you’re kneeling at the altar
With an old friend at your side

Awesome! :thumbsup

I am so sad that I had to work today and missed all the fun here on the forum. It was tons of fun reading an catching up on the line-up announcements.

Miki, you are too funny, Lady! :lol

Auntie Hope :festivarian2 :green

Hotdog kids Lyle Lovett! :medal FANTASTIC! Love his smooth sexy voice…it’s been awhile since he has returned to Tride. Great final announcment. :flower

:wave Hey Hope! :wave I’m not so funny, hard to be the straight guy around here when there are so many hotdogs on this forum :flower

:thumbsup
Wow! Lyle Lovett! That was one of my requests way back! :cheers
Great job Brian and the Planet. This is LARGE!
Just keep doing that great job!
Can I start cooking bacon yet?
:clap :clap :clap

Love, love, LOVE!! Thanks for setting up such a great time for us newbies… we have our first planning session in a couple weeks - can’t wait!

I’ve seen LL more than any other artist. He comes to Albq at LEAST once a year and it takes a big conflict to keep me away. All those shows, and never a bad one. When traveling, I’ve even caught him in the middle of the same tour, but the shows are always unique, and always fun.

I’ve seen him in the quartet of songwriters that played TBF a few years ago, with his LARGE Band, with a streamed-down not-so-large band, and soloing alongside John Hiatt just a few months ago. It just doesn’t seem to matter - every show is a blast.

Thanks to Ferg and company for putting a big exclamation point to the line-up for 2010 TBF.

Great addition!!!

Thanks for putting together such a fantastic lineup! :medal

I am so excited to see Lyle Lovett again. Love his smooth voice and texas ways… :medal

Ditto everyone else…love to see Lyle L added to the lineup! Brings me back to my Texas roots!

Love the Lovett. First show I saw in Phoenix was one of the best I have ever seen. Himself and the classically cool large band eased through blues, country, gospel, bluegrass, a touch of classical. Then, the large band would back off and Lyle sang and played with a carefully selected quart or quint. All the same, it was lovely. True performance!

Here’s a favorito of mine

Written by none other than his old roommate/neighbor Robert Earl Keen (who should be due back in TBF some year soon, its been way too long). Hey Lyle, how about a duo Tour? Smashing, Baby!

This old porch is like a big old red and white hereford bull
Standing under a mesquite tree
Out in agua dulce
And he just keeps on playing hide and seek
With that hot august sun
Just a-sweatin’ and a-pantin’
Cause his work is never done

And this old porch is like a steaming, greasy plate of enchiladas
With lots of cheese and onions
And a guacamole salad
And you can get’em down at the Lasalle hotel
In old downtown
With iced tea and a waitress
And she will smile every time

And this old porch is the palace walk-in
On the main street of texas
That’s never seen the day
Of g and r and xs
With that '62 poster
That’s almost faded down
And a screen without a picture
Since giant came to town

And this old porch is like a weathered, gray-haired
Seventy years of texas
Who’s doing all he can
Not to give in to the city
And he always takes the rent late
So long as i run his cattle

And he picks me up at dinnertime
And i listen to him rattle

He says the brazos still runs muddy
Just like she’s run all along
And there ain’t never been no cane to grind
The cotton’s all but gone
And you know this brand new chevrolet
Hell it was something back in '60
But now there won’t nobody listen to him
'cause they all think he’s crazy

And this old porch is just a long time
Of waiting and forgetting
And remembering the coming back
And not crying about the leaving
And remembering the falling down
And the laughter of the curse of luck
From all of those passerby
Who said we’d never get back up

This old porch is just a long time
Of waiting and forgetting
And remembering the coming back
And not crying about the leaving
And remembering the falling down
And the laughter of the curse of luck
From all of those sons-of-bitches
Who said we’d never get back up
