On-Site Camping Newbie

Hello All. Attended the festival last year and camped in Meadow Park. Was lucky enough to get on-site camping this year and cannot wait. I was wondering if some of our experienced festivarians could give some insight into the on-site experience, at least as far as arrival and set up. There is no way we can arrive before mid-afternoon Thursday. How does the process go for getting in line and then moving on-site? I see that at 6 pm Thursday, the line moves from the Bohn Park lineup to the on-site camping. I am just curious how that works and how far back in line we will be and what the consequences are in terms of getting a “good” spot to camp?

Whenever you get to Lyons, go to the park & get in line, with a number. There will be spots when you get there. It really depends on how many are in your group & what you want to set up…tent, EZ up, etc. All those with #'s get let in 1st & then the numberless, if you don’t get one. You’ll be fine! :thumbsup

Thank you Mark! I cannot wait!

I’m also camping on site for the first time. If I show up around 7pm on Thursday should I go straight to the onsite or to the park?

They start moving the line towards onsite at 6pm, but I imagine at 7pm there will still be cars moving over there. Probably head to Bohn Park and see if there’s any line left…tag onto the end of it.

Thanks for the info. Where tends to be the quietest part of the onsite camping or most ideal for families?

The line is usually on the tail end around 7:00-7:30, it varies by year.

The backstage camping is likely the best option for families as it seems to be somewhat quieter, but I’ll leave that answer up to those with more experience in the campground or with kids.

Agreed that it’s usually quieter backstage. However, it’ll be a lot harder to find space there the later you come…it tends to fill up quickly in my experience.
