Oldie now might be a Newbie

Long time (24 years) Telluride Town Park camper, thinking about heading to Lyons for the first time. Got a couple questions that might be answered somewhere else (please point me!).

Prob coming at a single, so is RG like TBF, where an empty tarp is just the first step to making a new friend or 7?

Not sure about the camping yet. I usually bring the entire kitchen for Camp Mustache in TP, but if I arrive as a single, a Longmont hotel room might be a better way to go. Is it really just a 20 minute drive? Anyone know if there’s a shuttle to the DEN airport and what that might cost?

If I do camp, sounds like the On Site area is the hot spot for jamming, but the photo makes that area look like TBF’s Warner Field on acid. I wouldn’t mind a LITTLE quieter place to walk to after a jam - any recommendations?

Weird question here. I have heard that the audience at RG is a sit down crowd. Or actually at “SIT DOWN IDIOT!!!” crowd. True? No dancing, no swaying, no fun allowed?

And finally, the dreaded tarp line. As a single guy with two over-used knees, I ain’t runnin’, but I might be able to stagger out with a DINKY tarp and chair. At T-ride I’ve sat on the audio “snake” as a single - are little spots like that still available for old farts who are not able to run?

I guess that’s plenty. I’d appreciate any helpful tips!

Hey John!

Well that’s exciting! We love RG just as much as TBF but it does have just slightly different character. You’ll love it!

Sending you some more details over text but to address some of your questions for the masses.

Yup - tarp surfing is encouraged and folks are friendly. Watch out though, they don’t like standing during sets in the front like at TBF. More on that in a sec…

Texting you about the kitchen situation. But ya if you decide to do the hotel thing, it’s a very quick ride for the most part. Beware though, Longmont is actually LONG (sprawl) and it can be significantly longer to Lyons from the South part of town than from the North.

Public transport (RTD) will be challenging but check out:

I know you personally so I have a feeling you’ll be fine in onsite. There are places by the river to drown out noise but sometimes it’s a gamble if your tent ends up next to someone’s “living room”. I’ll text you more about this.

Fun is definitely allowed and encouraged! But ya it’s a sit down fest in front of the EZups in the back except for the last song of a band’s set. It just is what it is. However, there is a large dancing area that extends to the poser pit along the river so you can still get up close and dance, just not in front of the seated section.

As with TBF, I bet you can find someone to help you out. Texting you about that as well!
