there are numerous colorado fires burning. None are anywhere near telluride.
If you are planning to drive highway 50 pls check the CO DOT website b4 you head out. As of today 50 is closed west of Canon City for the Royal Gorge Fire and that fire is 0% contained! 50 may remain closed for some time.
As of the news this morning there are 4 large fired in Colorado. This should be a reminder to everyone of the extreme fire risk we have all over CO. Pls be careful with outdoor cooking and campfires. If they are saying “no charcoal” of “no open flames” there is probably a good reason. Pls respect these restrictions as a fire could not only impact our festival fun but distroy the beautiful telluride landscape, homes, and lives.
Pls send positive vibes to the thousands that have been evacuated elsewhere in co and those (60+) who lost their homes yesterday.
I heard on the radio this AM, that over a 100 homes have been lost in the Black Forest fire, which is north of the Springs.
ALso heard, rumor only that the small zoo near the Canyon City fires was lost with all animals presumed lost also!
Lots of livestock in the Black Forest area, so prayig for the best.
To bring it closer to home, the last time I saw Dr. Bajo, Pete played a nice set at the Black Forest Community Center; also lost, former home of the Black Rose Acoustic Society…
Black Forest fire expanded overnight, 360 homes lost . . . with those numbers, 0 containment, and another red flag day, this looks to easily surpass Waldo in homes destroyed.
Rich Harvey, Waldo Incident 1 commander, has returned to area and as of 6 AM, has assumed control of fire fighting efforts.
Evacuation area has again increased as well, so continue to stay off I 25.
Pray for the people, livestock and other wildlife; this is undoubtredly going to be another major disaster for CO
50 open west of canon, but anticipate slow going due to smoke, returning evacuees, and fire fighting traffic.
Avoid I25 near Colorado Springs. It’s been exceptionally backed up w Black Forest fire. Pre evac boundary extends up to highway. They’ve had right lane coned off for evacuating people and fire/ law personelle. I25 was so bad today the dot recommended if u needed to get from springs to Denver to take 24 to limon 70 to Denver.
They’re asking the rest of us to avoid the area so that people needing to leave their homes for shelter, and emergency personnel/equipment, can move more quickly along that route. Please avoid this stretch of I-25. :medal
So for anyone traveling to the fest via COS the best route, would probably be 24 west to 285 then down to 50 and over to Montrose, passing throough Gunnison.
Please continue to keep all those impacted in our thoughts and prayers.
