Next Year's Lineup Wish List

I whole-heartedly agree with less Indie Emograss sentiment. It is the only complaint(other than a poor selection of beer) that I have about the fest the past couple of years. There is no tarp-stomping to Mumford & Sucks, there is no hoedown with the (not so)Swell Season, The Head & The Heart was just boring, and Sarah McLachlan was a snoozefest.

Please, let’s return to the Telluride Bluegrass/Coutry music we ALL love with that one GOOD curveball per year. Leave the Indie/Emo for SXSW.

Spoke with Shawn Camp last night. He wouldn’t mind, at all, doing Telluride next year!

Remind me again about the festivals you promote and the lineups you’re able to compile to please 10,000 people.

Musta hit a soft spot. Apparently, you gotta watch what you say around these Emograssers.

I thought this was a forum about wish lists for future Telluride BLUEGRASS lineups? I was merely stating my opinion as a consumer and fan of the festival. If you wanna listen to crappy music, go ahead. I am just stating my opinion that I’d rather not have it at an otherwise stellar festival.

I thought this was a forum about the positivity about the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and not about whining about how imperfect it is.

Yeah, you do a hit a spot, Mr. Crash Test Dummy, when you denigrate bands with comments such as Mumford-and-sucks, etc.

Planet Bluegrass conducts annual surveys about the musical wishes from festivarians and those results comprise a significant sample across a broad base of attendees. I believe they balance those wishes along with their perspective on the latest and greatest in the scene.

See you at the beer tent (or maybe not since it apparently also blows according to you) next year.

Ignore it Billy. Rule #1 about discussions/debates: When you resort to name-calling, you lose your credibility.

If I don’t like a certain act, I just have to look around me at the people who are really enjoying it. When i see the smiles on their faces, I can respect that they like it, and maybe it’s not my cup of tea, but it was a good choice as long as people dig it.

Not everyone is that respectful. I get it.

Very wise words and I know you’re correct that I should ignore his name calling. I guess I could have if he had only dissed Mumford, but when he also insulted New Belgium, well, that just sent me over the edge. :lol

:thumbsup well said guys! :cheers Hold on, I’ll pull you back up…

Talent is subjective. BE KIND!

When my husband was a freshman in College he got to see The Talking Heads for free. :medal

He told me he stood on a chair along side his friend and yelled out YOU HAVE NO TALENT… :eek

Yeah right… Mumford and Sons ROCK! SOoooooooooooooo many Bozos so little time. :flower

Wow… Full Moon AGAIN!!!

:festivarian

Auntie Hope :festivarian2 :green

full harvest moon matter of fact
peak of the season :peace

Tell me about it. Does anyone ever sleep on a full moon. I don’t! I just want to write. :flower

I still think John Mellincamp would be a great addition. :wave

Yeah, John Mellencamp would be good. I’ll put in my annual request for the Gourds as well. Also would like to see James McMurtry and Robert Earl Keen. Keep trying for Neil Young too!

Yep. Self’d. Let’s be adults and discuss.

btw, I second the Robert Earl Keen suggestion. That guy is the real deal. I’ll also add that I’d love to see Alison Krauss, Greensky Bluegrass, and Leftover Salmon return this year.

Justin Townes Earle…

…has established a name for himself aside from ‘his name’. one of the most underrated young talented musicians out there with a genuine respect and understanding for where our breed of music comes from…

In my humble opinion…
I would love to see Robert Earl Keen Jr., Keb Mo, John Prine, Carrie Rodriguez (who is such an amazing musician!), Greensky, The Avett Brothers, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Lucinda Williams, Sun Mountain Fiddler and personally…
I LOVED Old Crow on Saturday night, I also really enjoyed Trampled by Turtles.
I think there will always be some acts that I just don’t connect with, but that is always a good time to take the kids to the kids tent or park, eat, nap or relax.

Seconded. I’ve been listening to a lot of JTE lately. He’d be a perfect fit.

That said, I’d say keep the lineup as close to this year’s as possible, but try to add JTE, Ritter, and, of course, Neil. The Devil Makes Three would be cool, too.

There are plenty of festivals that cater solely to the traditional crowd. Telluride is great because the lineup is incredibly diverse, yet most bands have some central thing in common (acoustic instruments). If you had it your way, I, for one, would quit coming.

I’d like to second this idea. The diversity is certainly one of the main reasons I decided to pack up my family (including a 3 and 8 year old) and drive 24 hours non-stop from Wisconsin to the festival this year, and decided to come back again next year sometime around 10 o’clock Thursday morning!

As far as I’m concerned, any band becomes a bluegrass band when Bela, Jerry or Sam get up on stage with them and jam!
:cheers

Jackie Greene played Pagosa, and so did Keb Mo, and I would love to see both of them again. Tride would love them!
