Next Year's Lineup Wish List

Speaking of Carrie Rodriguez (see my earlier post), just saw her in a couple of different TV appearances, playing fiddle in the band for none other than THE DUDE! - Jeff Bridges! His new album is actually pretty good. Bring THE DUDE to Telluride! He’d really tie the festival together!

One other suggestion The Jayhawks! They’re releasing a new set this month!

we need to get hot buttered rum to telluride and greensky to come back for a jam with railroad . ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

Acts of Congress!

I call The Goat Rodeo Sessions as a Telluride 2012 act:

No one will be disappointed - I promise.

Would be fun to see Abigail Washburn again! Check out her “tiny desk concert” at NPR:

I’ll probably take a lot of flack for saying this, but I wouldn’t mind a year without YMSB. Feel free to replace them with Leftover Salmon though…

Infamous Krewe!

We all know The Stringdusters killed it this year and I’ve been saying Toubab Krewe for 2 years. Glad at least the The Stringdusters know what’s up and have been doing shows with them for the past year.

And second to The Goat Rodeo Sessions, Yo-Yo Ma at Telluride? Yes, Please. :thumbsup

I’ll share the flack. Here’s my blasphemous post of the year:

Skip YMSB…I’m sure YMSB is still a draw for a lot of people, but they don’t light my fire anymore. Skip them, and as much as I love Salmon, let’s skip them too. Skip Peter Rowan. Let’s let Tim O’Brien have only one set. Can we live for a year without Chris Thile’s Arteeeestic Endeavor of the year? And (Sorry Tom), I love Emmylou, but I just can’t pay any attention to her.

Fill in those 6 or so slots with some of these suggestions from the Festivarians. Or let the Planet crew come up with their own…any team that has scored us Mumford (when they were unknown), Imelda May (can we have her back please?), Head and the Heart and Joe Pug the last 2 years (all bands I’d never heard of) is OKAY by me!

PB works hard at striking the balance between the old reliables and the infusion of new blood. I’ve been hearing from folks that the balance is a little heavy on the old faithfuls.

The Waybacks

I like the core “old faithfuls”, 'course I’m old and faithful and in the way.

So do i Mark…don’t get me wrong.

I love Vanilla ice cream. I could eat it every day, and still love it. Even a “bad” Vanilla ice cream is okay with me…because, well, its still Vanilla, and I love Vanilla.

But I love to try new flavours, and experiment with my Ice Cream. Sometimes I’m eating Vanilla, and I’m really wishing I’d ordered a new flavour I’d never tried before. But when i get new flavours, sometimes i wish I had my good old Vanilla. It’s a dilemma…knowhayImean??

I’m sort of the same with music. One of the happiest things that happens to me is when I discover new music (new to me, anyway) I really love. But I don’t go out of my way to seek it. When I choose music, I almost always choose something familiar and easy. So one of the things I get from Telluride is i get a lot of my Vanilla, but a whole lot of other flavours are thrust in front of me, sort of forcing me to try them.

:lol :lol :lol :lol Yeah :medal

Bluegrass is about roots and tradition. I do agree that it is a fine balance of new and old favs as well. I think ferg should throw us all for a loop and put Dweezel Zappa in there. PAY ATTENTION!

someone mentioned the Infamous Krewe… and i couldn’t agree more :cheers
saw their debut at the festy last year at devil’s backbone www.thefesty.com

and in the future, less indy (aka. mumford, decemberists, head and heart, etc.)… & more grass! (aka. tony rice, alison krauss, david grisman, emmit-nershi, railroad earth, del mccoury, lonesome river band, blue highway, steep canyon, dehlia low, town mountain, greensky, josh williams, crooked still, dailey and vincent, dan tyminski, etc.)

Agreed. Not that we shouldn’t have ANY Indie or a surprise band now and then, but… :wave

Craig can read this and go to bed knowing his mission is accomplished. Some festivarians want more grass, less “Other”, some festivarians love all the “Other”.

I stopped paying attention to the name of the festival a long time ago. To me it’s the “Telluride FergFest”. The only thing we know for sure is Craig has approved of all the acts.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :cheers :cheers LOVE THAT!!!

When the Bare Naked Ladies did that acoustic set a few years back they just tore it up.

I loved it.

How bout we bend and shape again Ferg? Someone who does not normally do Acoustic would be killer. Dweezel Zappa :lol :lol :lol :lol

A+

Just saw Martyn Joseph at Strawberry and was blown away! i don’t think I have ever seen someone control and WOW 6000 people for an hour and 15 minutes with just his voice and an accustic guitar. He was so powerful he made Hippie Jerry Cry! And me a little too. He would deffinately be a great addition to Telluride! :pickin
