Hi all - It is my first time…need to know the scoop as far as the ‘before party’ at Town Park…what are some things that I won’t think I need, but WILL need, when should I arrive (I am camping at Warner), something you wish someone had told you the first time you went…and will I make a ton of friends? (I am going solo). Anything you can think of will help…I can’t wait! Thanks for your input ahead of time! HappyGal…
:wave Plan for winter camping, read more of the forum posts, plan for summer tanning, read more forum posts, plan to meet many new friends, read more of these forum posts, and plan for Festivaaaaal! :cheers
…and bring bacon.
Besides bacon, it is always appreciated if a few donations are made for some of the “communal events”. For example, canned fruit cocktail or other fruit ( no grapefruit) or rum or other alcohol for the run balls. I could use donations of tomato juice, lime juice , horseradish, celery or spices for the bloody Mary’s. bring something that you can make into a dish for pot luck etc.
I found that I really didn’t need my assless chaps…turns out that at 9000 feet the sun is not kind to the normally unexposed skin. Anywho, I’d leave those at home.
But DO bring a winter hat/gloves and long underwear! Can’t stress that enough. It’s going to be colder than you think at night.
Also I drastically underestimated the amount of bacon I would need…which brought on an unnecessary amount of shame upon my camp. So take that into consideration.
After arriving at Warner field you will automatically become a cooler person and following your obligatory festivirgin sacrifice you will have new friends bestowed upon you by the festival gods…we’re in Warner field and my wife makes a mean pear vodka press which you are more than welcome to sample. It’s Tasty, AND Refreshing! :thumbsup
Warner Field doesn’t open until Wednesday, June 20th so if you get into town before that you’ll have to make arrangements for a place to stay elsewhere (condo, hotel, camp out of town) in order to participate in most of the Town Park pre-fest activities.
Ask around or look for me and I’ll be sure you get the full festivirgin treatment. :lol
If you can’t bring something to contribute just bring a smile and a laugh. You’ll fit in just fine. :thumbsup
FYI, I was able to book a room at the Mountainside Inn for $130 for the Tuesday before Warner opens. Not a bad deal, even if it is a long walk from the festivities. It sure beats driving in Wednesday morning!
:thumbsup Good post JoeBu. :festival
Thanks for all of the valuable information guys! I’m gettin’ excited!!!
How in the world did you find a wf pass this late?
TRL - I bought it from a girl here in Denver who had it for her boyfriend, but he couldn’t go. The ticket I got is only one ticket for the festival and camping…is that normal? I want to make sure I wasn’t scammed!
Yes, that’s normal for Warner Field and Town Park. Call Planet Bluegrass, give em the ticket #, etc, if you want to be 100% sure.
But yes, both Town Park & Warner Field are only one ticket…camping & music combined! :thumbsup
No that’s correct for both tp and wf (face value I’d hope)… Congratufestilations virg! Get ready for an absolute blast and you will undoubtedly have no problem meeting some of the greatest folks on the planet.:woohoo
JoeBu,
Once again, I have BUSTED out laughing in a public place and had to explain exactly why. Thank You! :thumbsup
HappyGal,
You think you’re happy now? Just wait! Personal gear for all weather conditions is going to be your best packing advise. Well, that and ‘don’t forget you ticket’. Read through the forum for the rest!
Auntie Hope :festivarian2 :green
Thanks for all of the info guys…and BillyBeru…I will call and make double sure…would HATE to get there and not have a valid ticket. Yes, it was face value…
So I just had to say I’ve really enjoyed these posts and having fun scouring the forum for tips & advice. Still seeking 1 pass but I have faith someone will pull through. Pretty sure I’ll be adding some questions soon that have probably been asked a million times& have you all rolling your eyes & muttering “newbie” under your breath but for now I’m just passing time reading everyone elses. Getting soooooo excited!
ckshusker - I feel the same way…asking question that others have answered a thousand times! For instance…where do you keep your money? I know it seems like a stupid question, but I would think you would need to take a fair amount with you…I suppose you just keep it in your pocket at all times. Yep…that’s me…newbie! Good luck with getting a pass!
HappyGal…one of the many great things about TBF is the town itself.
Sick of eating off of a camp stove? You’re in luck, there are bunch of great restaurants a 10 minute walk away!
Bought too many killer flank steaks and reasonably price beer out of recycled cups? Just go hit a cash machine, you’ll be back before the current act is even over.
Have an overpowering desire to make whoopie in the woods. Just walk up the trail a bit…the park ranger will let you finish before kicking you out of the woods. (Caution: TBF 30th Anniversary DVD reference)
The US is playing in the World Cup at 7am, but you don’t have an Satellite/HD TV in your tent? Just frequent one of the many fine establishments opening early for the Match.
Suffering from Glaucoma? There’s a dispensary a short walk from the fest grounds. :lol
Hmmmm now that I read this back, I’m not sure if whoopie is spelled with an ‘H’ or if it’s spelled woopie and whoopie is something else entirely. :huh So I’ll revise and say the Park Ranger may kick you out of the woods depending upon if it’s woopie or whoopie that you’re makin’.
:lol :lol You silly, do you really think folks are going to tell you where they put their money :lol, silly. A Fanny pack and if you like to get wet, a water proof fanny pack.
But everytime I strap it on my son gives me a hard time, something about being a 70’s loser :lol :lol :lol guess it’s not to fashionable
