I’m planning on attending Folks Fest with my 12 y.o. daughter, camping at either Meadow Park or River Bend. The two of us went to RockyGrass once and stayed at Meadow Park and had a great time, but I’m curious about River Bend, among other things. My current batch of questions are:
Is the walk any shorter/longer to River Bend vs. Meadow Park?
Which one is a more comfortable place to stay?
At RockyGrass (pre-flood), we were able to inner tube back to Meadow Park. Is that still an option to/from either of the campgrounds? What is the river access like at the two campgrounds?
My wife is planning on coming up for just Saturday, and may stay with us Saturday night only – would I need to buy a full $50/$70 camping pass for her, or are there less expensive options, like a single night pass?
I’m not planning on camping out all week, so, does that mean it makes more sense to go with River Bend, so I just have to leave my tent set up starting Thursday?
Any hints on carving out some personal space in the campground? Tarps/multiple tents/police tape?
Is the walk any shorter/longer to River Bend vs. Meadow Park? River Bend is just across the street from Planet Bluegrass and thus is a shorter walk (I’d say 5 minutes for Riverbend vs 10 for Meadow)
Which one is a more comfortable place to stay? Hmm this I guess is personal preference. Riverbend has more trees I would say and nice lush grass. However Meadow is under going improvements and could be better than ever once completed. At this point if I had to pick one I would say Riverbend, but I stay in Meadow for the longer camping time and because some in our group have pop-up campers
At RockyGrass (pre-flood), we were able to inner tube back to Meadow Park. Is that still an option to/from either of the campgrounds? What is the river access like at the two campgrounds? You can tube to Riverbend, though it is a pretty short ride. you would have tubed through it on your way to Meadow park, (it is just before where the swimming hole was) Last year you could not access the river in Meadow park due to the flood. I know they are working on opening this up again but am not sure if it will be complete by RG or not. Hopefully it will be done in time for Folks Fest though
My wife is planning on coming up for just Saturday, and may stay with us Saturday night only – would I need to buy a full $50/$70 camping pass for her, or are there less expensive options, like a single night pass? There is no single night passes for camping and further more according to http://www.bluegrass.com/folks/tickets.html you need a full 3 day festival pass in addition to the $70 camping pass to stay in Riverbend. Where as you can stay in Meadow with a single day and $50 camping
I’m not planning on camping out all week, so, does that mean it makes more sense to go with River Bend, so I just have to leave my tent set up starting Thursday? Folks Fest is much more mellow than Rocky Grass and you could find a spot in Meadow park on Thursday without camping all week. Some of the most preferential spots may be gone, but in general this shouldn’t sway your decision either way as if I recall there were people lined up at Riverbend on Thursday when it opened ready to run for the good spots
Any hints on carving out some personal space in the campground? Tarps/multiple tents/police tape? Wink Last year they wouldn’t let us put down tarps so I used a shade tent and several tents to reserve our area. We had some pretty close neighbors, but they became a part of our group
I do really like the police tape idea though and perhaps a chalk outline would assist in saving the space :evil
Let me know if there are more questions that you have or anything else I can do to assist. As a person who has stayed in Meadow park for 7+ festivals I have certainly received my share of assistance over the years and am happy to pay that forward.
