I think I peed myself a little after reading DAVID BYRNE!!! This was already gonna be a stellar year, but this is sure to make it EPIC!!!
Yeah…What he said… only doing a chopping gesture with my right hand on my left arm!

No Leftover Salmon this year?
Their Friday night set last year was excellent!

give it time. All pieces will fall into place with time.
Thinking about the Talking Heads and a trip with about 20 silly friends to the sand dunes at White Sands on a full moon.
Jumpin, rollin’ and flyin’ off the dunes with the talking heads streaming in the background…in the moon light…
LOVE the way music brings back a flood of memories. Stoked , :flower
Don’t miss Gaelic Storm. They put on one hell of a show!

… I got an email from Spring Creek Bluegrass Band sayin’ that they, as for now, won’t be in this years TBF ;(. Why weren’t they invited? (they did say that shootin’ an email to Planet Bluegrass wouldn’t hurt ). For those that don’t know, they’ve been picked up by Rebel Records, and their new CD will be out this Spring (they’re done recording it, it’s being edited and finalized now – got that info in Lyons on New Years Eve). Rebel Records has sponsored such bluegrass greats as Ralph Stanley, Flatts and Skruggs, Slim Bryant, Earl Taylor, etc etc. I think it’s awesome that this label has picked up Spring Creek. It’d be a real shame of they don’t get invited back again.
A record label? dont they know those are things of the past? :lol
usually the planet doesnt have band contest winners back the next year. And probably only the ones that are really kicking butt and making a big name get to ever come back. it would be interesting to see the stats on that. perhaps that deserves its own thread?
Hummm…
I thought the Band Contest Winners had a spot the next year.
Didn’t the Dixie Chicks win at T’ride, and Younder?
Just curious.

Spring Creek was the 2007 band competition winner and played at last years (2008) festival. That being said, I’m assuming the previous poster was just mentioning they haven’t been invited back for the second year.

Ahhh, I get it. Thanks Adam!

Wow how did I miss Jenny Lewis in the list !
Must dig out my Rabbit Fur Coat for the evenings.
I love love love Spring Creek Bluegrass Band. They are some of the nicest, most down to earth people around. I was lucky enough to get to spend a good amount of time with them at a small festival up in Buffalo, WY. They just hung out with us, drank some beer, and played tunes with us when the guitar got over to them in the circle around the fire. Just very down to earth people. Then again, most are in the bluegrass seen. Best damn people on earth!
I think that the band contest winners are generally given their spot the year after they win, but then have to “earn” their way back by showing that they aren’t just a flash in the pan. If Spring Creek continues to grow, hopefully they’ll be back in the future.
Greensky Bluegrass won in 2006, played in 2007 and weren’t asked back last year. Since then, they’ve released two albums and gained a lot of fans so I’m hoping they’ve “earned” their way back, at least for a nightgrass.
Greensky played some gigs out here in Portland recently that were PACKED! They sounded tight and happy. It was a blast and nice to see them have such a great turnout.
Greensky Bluegrass!! Hell yea! :thumbsup That would be great!
I think it’s time for Greensky to return.
