There’s also a guy who brings firewood in daily starting around Tuesday I think. He’s a local guy who lives in Ophir. 5 bucks a bundle. Remember :The only fires allowed are at the sites with fire rings. If you find yourself at a site w/o one, which is likely as there are very few… A bundle of wood goes along way toward making friends with a campsite that does! Also please check fire restrictions and open flame bans before lighting up!! Hopefully the rain gods will do their thing before Fest!
Okay so I’m kind of a moron when it comes to camping. I don’t really even know how to set up a tent but I’m sure I’ll figure it out.
Two questions
So at Mary Illium, if I stumble back drunk at 3 AM and get bit by a rattlesnake, what are my options?
Also, showering? I just assumed there would be showers around and that this is not like bonnaroo, but that may not be the case correct?
Lastly, if there are not vendors at Illium, are there places in Telluride where I can grab my 2/3 AM late night snack before heading back to my campground?
Stumbling to Ilium at 3am is not an option, unless to plan to arrive at 8am. It’s a long walk on a road with no shoulders; 7 miles if memory serves correctly. Can’t ever remember seeing a rattlesnake in Telluride.
No showers at Ilium. You can get off the bus at the high school on the way in to town (on the shuttle) and pay to take a semi hot shower in a high school gym locker room. I think that’s the only option for showers if you’re in Illium??
There are vendors at the festival grounds, and they are awesome. You are pretty much in the middle of town when you leave the festival grounds so there are bars open all over with good drunk food.
Also, the last shuttle leaves for Illium at 2am. You don’t want to miss that.
It will interfere most likely (with nightgrass, not the regular festival). Keep an eye on your watch and know how long it take you to schlep to the Gondola.
mmm…so if I miss my shuttle because I absolutely do not leave concerts early, especially shows I paid out the ass to see and traveled a lot of miles to see, what are my options? are there taxis? Can I hitch rides?
When we stayed in Illium, my brother did plenty of nightgrass. If I remember correctly, you’re fine to stay to the end of a show, as long as you don’t lollygag afterwards. Leave immediately and get in line for the shuttles and you should be fine.
Some other plus’ for the high school- showers right there and there is a grocery store almost across the street so you can get your breakfast there too if you rather fetch than make…
Yeah but HOW against the rules is the drinking, I mean I’m fine with the “no pulling out your wang and barfing all over the place” rule but if I’m not able to just sit there and drink a beer, I mean that’s some Saudi Arabia type stuff there man.
Just trying to be amusing friend. Not bothered by the family friendly campground, just somewhat bothered by the extreme expense of this endeavor and only to find out I might not catch all of nightgrass. You’d think the shuttle would run 24 hours.
:wave You will get so much music in during the day that you just may decide you need a good night’s sleep and end up not going to nightgrass. Don’t stress so much over it, it all works out the way it is supposed to. There are several places that serve food pretty late so you can always eat after the fest is over for the day, then you may not crave a late-night snack. I know at the Palm they did have some munchies for sale. :popcorn
Just remember that you are among friends, you are ALL there to have a good time. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Pace yourself, don’t suffer from FOMO, and you will have the best time ever. If you get there pre-fest, please come up to Run A Muck and introduce yourself. Much knowledge can be gained there. hee hee :cheers :evil
See, I was told by a dear friend that nightgrass is the highlight of Telluride. This is my 30th birthday present to myself. As I enter into adulthood and gaze upon the depressing sights of friends getting married and getting pregnant intentionally, as I see my drinking tolerance go down and the need for exercise increase, I am craving one last tour of the battlefield. I picked Telluride so I am hoping to suck all the marrow out of this experience that I can.
Yes there is a camp host, Well there is the welcome tent when you first to the campground. There is or will be someone there pretty well 24hrs a day. No, I have never seen a rattle snake at Mary E. :thumbsup Come to think about it about the only wildlife I have seen(other than us) was some deer down by the church about four of five years ago.
