If you agree with following, please chime in to TBF organizers: Seems like tarp size has gotten out of hand this year and some attendees are claiming ridiculous plots of land when they lay out 40+ foot long tarps (which I saw several times this year). Festival organizers limit early arrivers who wait in line in the morning (as I always do) to one tarp per one person - but there is no limit to tarp size. I think that one person should be able to claim space for a family or two with a large size tarp, but propose a limit to tarp size (eg 10 x 20 ft?).
Actually in the brochures it’s always stated 10X10; I believe. Just not enforced.
This year we had the experience of being asked to leave the space between two of those huge tarps, and not because everyone was there (acreage of empty space on each tarp) but because they would be arriving at some point. After we shifted to another more welcome grassy opening, one of the original group came up and offered us the far corner of the vast emptiness, but at that point we were a bit abashed, and stayed put.
I too am surprised by the reluctance of some tarp holders to invite others in. I don’t mind the monstrous tarps, but having an unwelcoming attitude toward tarp surfing is ridiculous. It’s literally cited in rules and regs that empty chairs and open tarps are open to all, and it’s sadly unfestivarian to push people away at the borders.
TBF is without a doubt a brilliant event and easily my favorite festival. I’ve seen some of the best sets of music in my life there over the years, and met long time friends. It’s the summer event that I start planning for in July, and will keep headed there from CA as long as I can.
It’s a tiny blemish on an otherwise perfect face. Maybe when security checks bags, they could also check the attitudes of anyone with a tarp larger then 10x10. Now there’s a feasible and reasonable solution to a very tired problem.
Shall we move on to the non-camping/sleeping line? :cheers
Be kind, be aware, be polite and reach out in friendship. No one owns shit. This topic bugs me . :burn
Share the land. Ridicules. Love perpetuates love. kill em with kindness if you are confronted with anything but. :hug :vibes
Asking PBG to Police tarp size is a wet dream :burn, get over it.
Stand up, speak up and be kind and civil.
If you really think it is unjust or unfair, self Police. But please Be kind. :flower
Where is the love that Fest perpetuates here. :cheers I can see that owning space is a hot topic but how bout some self respect and ownership. :thumbsup
Be accountable. Speak up and represent! :medal
My tarp was always front and center and filled with folks I never knew till that set or day. That is all the fun. :lovedr Be open to squirt guns and kindness and give others more then one chance…
As the days go by more and more become open. Hard for some, we all come from different environments and it takes some getting use to. All that kindness. :cheers
Overflowin far as I can tell and surreal … so smile and move over :cheers
Do know that the tarps up front are a choice spot and folks work really hard to secure that space so if you are asked to move over or leave by the owner you should do so with grace as you are a squatter. :flower
Tarp 101 :flower
Landshark, you said people work hard to secure a spot and people not getting there first are just squatters. 4 or 5 years ago I was running to get a spot and large young man came up from behind me and ran me over, luckily I was not seriously hurt. No one asked if I was ok. I was 60 years old.
I know you are being sarcastic. I apologize for thinking otherwise. Just saying.
I am so sorry to hear that… but have got to say Mr.P runnin your tarp at age 60? YOU GO! :medal My kinda guy! :lol
Well Mr.P I do like to stir the pot here and yes it was a poke. But the fact still remains. Early bird catches the worm or in our case a superb tarp spot.
Here is the best kept secret friend, the sound is actually better farther back. I found that out when I showed up a few minutes into Robert Plants set a few years ago. The sound is amazing farther back. Tarp size? Its a flippin Festi Nation. One big happy!
