Looking forward to seeing them along with Elephant Revival up at the conference center! They’re on on a mini-CO winter run at the moment, with a stop in SLC tomorrow & back to Aspen the following day.
Wish they’d play at the Pavillion in Town Park instead … it was always intended as a multi-use facility from the beginning & actually hosted KOTO’s Halloween party in 2010 for the first time ever as a music venue this past fall.
I would be a fan if Planet Bluegrass started using it for pre-fest shows such as on tues & wed nights … or even late night shows (might require a bit to re-work logistics of campground vs. pavillion only access) during the fest, but my suspicion is that late night (1-3am) might not fly well with the town and east end residents.
It sure would be cool to have another NightGrass venue, but would it disrupt the “vibe” of the campground to have late night shows in the pavilion? (we’re talking about the hockey rink in Town Park, right?)
Yes, I was talking about the so-called “hockey rink” … sorry, sarcasm not directed at you, but the Town of Telluride (as it was originally intended to be and voted on as a multi-purpose venue). I was totally against it, but now that it’s been built, I say use it as originally envisioned while also promoting greater access to more people to the Town Park campground “experience” (at least for a few hours).
Late night shows during the festival would definitely change the vibe … but realistically I don’t believe they’d get approval for a 1-3am shows. Furthur Festival last May @ Angles Camp, CA had a similar sort of setup (although the late night indoor venue was a bit more removed from the actual campsites) … which I have to say was AWESOME to be able to catch two late night shows in a real indoor venue “on the grounds” & then walk back to my tent.
I was originally driving more at a pre Tuesday or Wednesday 7pm - 11pm sort of window. I realize the campground has the traditional activities & such … and can see how some folks might not want their annual routine to be encroached upon, but personally I look at it as probably the best large indoor venue in Town which is not being utilized to it’s fullest potential. I’d still turn back the clock to have it removed if it were possible, but given that it does exist …
Generally speaking, I believe you are correct that promoters will often leverage when information is released re: upcoming events (while there are competing unsold events still out there) … especially with fan bases who are willing to travel.
But not so sure in this case, but who knows … as if folks would’ve skipped out on seeing LOS on their mini-winter-tour, if they knew they’d catch them at TBF?!? I have also heard rumors of them appearing at High Sierra. I suppose it’s also possible that with Emmit / Nershi announced as an act at Electric Forest, LOS could potentially wind up on that lineup as well.

I’m always appreciative when the cards are laid out on the table as soon as they are known, which TBF seems to be VERY good at doing … even putting a positive spin on it and taking it to a new level here!
