Hi my wife and I have camped at Folks before, but now we have kids. Last time we were in the car section with our van. We were thinking of going for the backstage tents only zone this year. I know that PB now has a Family Zone across the steet at River Bend, but we feel that the ability to quickly zip back and forth to camp will make for everyone seeing more music.
My question is: Are we completely crazy to bring our 3 and 5 year old into the backstage zone and expect them to get any sleep? The Folks crowd I remember were a pretty mellow group, but just wanted some thoughts from others.
Obviously the festival is over … but for future folks. . . we did on-site camping with our 2 and 4 year olds this year. It was, for the most part, pretty chill. The biggest problem we had, really, was keeping them from bugging the neighbors, lol. Our 2 year old decided to have an all-out screaming fit on Sunday night because he didn’t want a diaper change . .that was kind of embarrassing! They actually slept great because they were so worn out from the river and playing and staying up late to hear music that, by the time we got them into bed, they just dropped like stones (as did we).
We did on-site camping at Rocky Grass with our oldest when she was 2. That was pretty chill, too. Even more so than this year because we only had 1 small child to deal with. That was really our biggest problem . .how to keep them happy and comfortable in the heat and rain . .the on-site camping environment, in my opinion, is fine for small kids. There were a few “PG-13” moments in the camps near us but our kids didn’t even notice. My oldest was singing “S.O.B” on the way home, though . .but I don’t mind too much because that’s a good song and we had a nice discussion about how we don’t repeat bad words in songs, lol.
